New bathroom loo/toilet - would you conceal the cistern or not?

We're getting a new bathroom. It's a small bathroom. It would probably make sense to choose a 'floating' loo with a concealed cistern because it would make the room appear bigger BUT ... are concealed cistern's more trouble than they are worth ... and I'm talking about once they are installed, up and running (or not running as the case may be)??

Anyone who has any experience or views, I'd appreciate hearing from you as I'm doing this on my own (DD's would probably be more help than DH on this!) and am dithering.

Very many thanks in advance.

We've got a hidden cistern that's 2 years old and had no problems (touch wood)...usually have access panels though.

mmm, I always worry about them..we're in the middle of new bathroom right now and have lived with an old loo with the cistern housed behind wood, with a shelf over the top, so you can get to it, but not as easily as lifting it's own lid off iyswim. We have chosen a new loo which is surprisingly neat and small, with very tiny,in comparison, cistern which I'm thrilled with - shall I post a picture ?

LadyMuck · 28/03/2008 18:55

Personally I find the access panels a bit of a bind when it comes to throwing a bleach block in.

Katisha · 28/03/2008 18:57

We have had one for two years as well with an access panel. No problems. Looks nice.

it's on profile, not a brilliant pic though...it's a Prague loo from Bath Store

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/03/2008 19:11

Prague loo

ib · 28/03/2008 19:11

I would say yes - had one for about 7 years in a previous property and never had a problem, have had one here for 3 years and also never a problem, will be putting them in the next bathroom I do too.

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 28/03/2008 19:15

please if you are going to have a built-in loo make sure you have access...

I can't tell you how difficult it was to get our built-in toilet fixed as no-one could get access to the cistern...and it did nothing to help our DD's potty training...

So ... as long as you can access them easily enough, they are a good thing then.

What about 'suspended' loo's? Are your concealed cistern loo's sitting on the floor or suspended and does anyone have any thoughts on this subject?

PS. Thanks a million, am REALLY appreciating your responses - is helping a lot.

Mine all suspended. Only tip is to make sure you specify at what height you want it installed, as for some reason if left to their own devices plumbers always seem to put them very high (had this with 3 different plumbers).
