Christening Present ideas please

I am going to be godmother to an 11 month old at the end of January. Any ideas for something different. Kinda want to avoid toys as so close to Christmas and his 1st birthday. Cheers

My ds was given some really nice cufflinks as a present, thought this was an unusual and good idea !

a st.christopher? ds1 got one on a chain for his christening.
He also got a bottle of wine that is to be saved until he is 21 - suppose it was researched well to find a bottle that will age well!

Somebody else mentioned a bottle of wine, one of DH's work mates son got christened and all of his colleagues clubbed together to buy a really decent bottle of wine that will age well. I bought my goddaughter who was 5 a really pretty collectible china doll. My 9 month old daughter got some Wedgweood china christening items and wait for it - 7 money boxes! If anybody wants a christening money box you know where to come!

We were given a photo session for ds, which was brilliant. Another thing he was given was a silver pocket watch, really gorgeous, to be used on posh occasions when older.

Hate to put a downer on name a star - but why?

Its just a ploy to make money for somebody, they dont belong to anybody. Its a nice gesture, but thats all it is and somebody is charging you £40 for a bit of paper/certificate that actually doesnt mean very much.

Sorry if that upsets people but this name a star thing really bugs me.

jenkel- dd's godmother bought her a star- personally i'd have prefered her to sponsor a bit of the rainforest/ an animal at the zoo/ a child in developing country

Yeh - you are right Jenkel. I remember going to a seal sanctuary and the option to adopt a seal was quite a nice idea for a present too.

The Royal Mint do some nice stuff. We got my nephew a presentation pack of British coins from the year he was born/christened. My sister loved it as she and I still have the equivalent sets from the 1960s when we were born.

My mum bought my ds a child's cutlery set for his first birthday (he wasn't christened) and will probably do the same for my dd.

Ds was given 6 bottles of port from the year he was born, silver wine coaster thingy, silver photoframe with his name and christening date engraved on it, and a huge leather photo album. Yes, his godparents are all into silver!
I gave both my god daughters st christophers for their christening, but am sure it would be suitable for a boy also. I also gave their parents a set of newspapers from the date of the christening, and packed them in acid free tissue paper.

Hi I have adopted an animal before for a child for a year. ie. at Monkey World in Dorset you can adopt a chimp for £15 for the year (keep it going every year for as long as you wish) It means you can spend time with the child taking him or her to visit the animal.

A good bible story book - eg 'Stories Jesus Told' by Mick Inkpen?
Plant a tree?
Something with their name - eg a wooden name train or crockery etc - try the Letterbox catalogue?
