If you have children aged around 0,2 and 4, what car do you have?

I need a list of possible cars

So far I have ruled out

renault scenic, following comments on here-it seems insanely unreliable
fiat multipla-this is why

Want a 5 seater-don't want 3 rows of seats

We've done the obvious and tried a lot of cars with our existing car seats but they don't fit. What I plan to do is book a test drive of likely candidates and then take them to mothercare to see what will fit, but want to narrow it down first.

Does it need to have a Ncap rating of 5?

Fillyjonk · 28/03/2008 08:21

do you have a petrol or diesel fio?

needs a decent ncap rating, yes.

we really can't afford a mistake here.

i love it
it has been fab
had it for 2 years
we have have a 7 yr old, a nearly 3 year old and a 13 month old

TheOriginalXENA · 28/03/2008 08:23

I don't think the ford c-max would be big enough. I did until a friend who has twins gave DS1 and I a lift. She has two stage two car seats in the back and DS1 had to wedge himself between them. You'll still want to fit three seats in for a while.

oooggs · 28/03/2008 08:26

I have ds1 (4) and dts (a year tomorrow!!) but have 3 different stage car seats as dt1 is small and still in an infant carrier, then dt2 is in a britax duo isofix and ds1 in a Maxi cosi rodi xp - I have a picasso

Slouchy · 28/03/2008 08:27

I've got the cmax and love it. But I only have 2 dcs, and can't get another booster in between the booster and stage 2 seat we have. Apparently you can get three in if the stage 2 uses the middle seat but don't think you'd get 2 x stage 2s in there. (Apols for early morning incoherent ramblings).

Think misdee gets 3 in her cmax?

Twinkie1 · 28/03/2008 08:36

We have a golf which is great for 2 kids - used to have a picasso and that was great too very economical.

Fillyjonk · 28/03/2008 08:37

ah but i have 3 kids

if anyone has 2 kids a fabia is great-zero breakdowns in 4 years

she now has a scenic kids are 5, 7 and 8

winnie76winnie · 28/03/2008 08:39

I have a Honda FRV - I've had it for nearly four years and its been fantastic. Its easy to drive and park, and the level of safety features is phenomenal.

this maybe

Ineedsomesleep · 28/03/2008 08:41

Renault Kangoo.

Very cheap and very reliable.

Fillyjonk · 28/03/2008 08:44

what is this thing with footwells and the foot of the child seats?

can we opt not to use the storage footwells or is it a false floor thingy?

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 28/03/2008 08:46

octavia doesn't seem to fit all 3 stage setas, have already tried mothercare cos def first choice, skodas are great

yes kangoo looks interesting but i think not wide enough

am googling others

OP posts:
oooggs · 28/03/2008 08:47

we keep the tow bar (detatchable) and picnic mat in our footwells, so not needed often and the carseat footstands do release up (well ours do) to get in to the floor space without removing the car seat then fixed down again (takes seconds) - not when car is moving though otherwise carseats not fitted correctly.

Fillyjonk · 28/03/2008 09:17

but is it safe to have the foot on a false floor?

can you open up the footwells to rest them on the floor?

OP posts:
oooggs · 28/03/2008 13:20

they are just cubby holes and are small and the lids are thick & strong and no you wouldn't put the footstands into them

zippitippitoes · 28/03/2008 13:23

what about a fiat doblo i have had one for about 6 years i love it
