Can anyone recommend a good tandem pushchair please??

I'm lloking for a tandem pushchair. We had one in mind but noticed several faults with it..Not much leg room in back, can't get access to the small shopping basket, no front bar on front seat and weighs 19 Kilos!!!

I want one that is lighter as i'll need to lift it in and out of the car for school runs and i think 19 K is not going to do my back much good!!! Especially after having a baby!!

I'd ideally like it to collapse well (as well as a tandem can do!) and have the front bar on if poss.

I've seen a few but the ones with more room weigh a ton and don't collapse well

I should say that it is for a new born and 13 month old and to be used for about 2 years so it fits untill the older one is nearly 3.

Sorry for the ramble

Can anyone advice me, thank you.

My 2 year old loves sitting in the back of the P&T, can still see the world go by, fascinated by peoples legs! Dont think it would suit a much older child though

DS2 (7mo) can see fine from the back seat of ours, just not directly ahead . I put him in the front seat when DS1 (nearly 3yo) is walking anyway. Infact DS1 has taken a shine to sitting in the back seat himself anyway lately.

The pannier bags velcro to the sides of the buggy, they do increase the width considerably, but are handy to take out if you are planning on doing some shopping, and they make up for the restricted access to the basket.

anyone else??? Please

(don't think i'll get DH to approve a cheque for P&T but will work on it, thanks)

i had a graco stadium duo, i paid £99 for it,and i loved it. only thing i found with it was i had to ake the front tray/bar and hood off for it to fit in my small boot, but it only took a few scs to do.

I had the Kidz Kargo Discovera Tandem three-wheeler. I love it but didn't have to collapse it to get it in the car very often. It did look good though and had a big shopping basket. I had many compliments on it. It was about £280.

Phil & Teds - Brilliant.

stripeybumpsmum · 27/03/2008 21:54

Jane Power Twin - love it. Not that much bigger wheelbase than a three wheeler single. DS (2) likes 'driving' holding onto bumper bar. DD (4m) seems very enclosed in the back when asleep but seems quite happy looking out when awake - didn't like Phil and Teds 'on top' style seat.

Pricey though - better off getting one on ebay I'd say if you aren't bothered about the car seat. We've got the car seat so wouldn't buy second hand. (But fab to have DD in the car seat facing me and her brother in the back seat!)

Loved my Powertwin when DTs were small, now drives me mad having to use it as whichever child is in the back kicks the one in front non stop. DT1 also likes to rock about from side to side so if he's in the front I zigzag up the road. Love my Phil & Ted, never any fights about who is in which seat, never a problem to push.

smugmumofboys · 27/03/2008 22:19

Instep Nipper Double. Fab. The lightest on the market iirc. Have used it loads both in town and countryside. Am sad I no longer need it.

smugmumofboys · 27/03/2008 22:20

Oops! Just noticed the word 'tandem'.
It's still fab though.

lyrasilvertongue....thats what i've got now and it looks great but don't you find that it weighs an abaolute ton without any kids in!!! Also how do you get any thing bigger than 32 into the shopping basket as it can only slot in through the side not the back???

If you get this I would love to find out more to see if you can convince me to keep it before i splah out £200 on a new one, thanks

It is quite heavy but it's got the foot bar at the back to help get it up kerbs etc.
I never had any problem getting things in the shopping basket either. I always had mine full of junk. We got it when DS2 was born and he's 3.5 now so maybe they've changed the design.
I was always really happy with it but if I ever needed another one I'd probably go for the Jane Power Twin if I had the extra cash.
