Inexpensive coffee machine that makes nice latte?

We have a filter coffee maker, but would like to be able to make lattes as well. We're not connoisseurs, although wouldn't drink instant coffee by choice. Not after the perfect espresso - just something that tastes okay and is straightforward to make. Any recommendations?

I just microwave the milk and top up with filter coffee - a latte shouldn't be foamy.

The foam is the best bit! I know there is a thing about whether lattes have foam - we just want to be able to make the drink that the chains refer to as a latte!

Try to nab an unused a Nespresso machine on Ebay? They make perfect, real espresso every time, which you need for a decent latte, and coffee machines are the most unused gadgets, apparently. We got a new one for fifty quid, which was sold at 250! Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal use Nespresso in their restaurants, for consistency. They're great. We had a stove-top one before, but it often burned the coffee - not good.

I've heard good things about them - but can't bring myself to buy Nestle!
