Where to buy children's shoes NOT Clarks?

My 3.5 year old needs winter shoes. We have always bought at Clarks but I am fed up with them not fitting properly on the width. He has somewhat wide feet and although they measure the width and say they provide the correct width setting, the velcro never meet properly. Since I pay a fortune for their shoes, I object! Anyway, in central london where I live they are not even doing a sale. So where can I go instead to get him shoes? There has to be somewhere better (and not more expensive) than Clarks.

Asda George, or tesco's. Im afraid i wont pay Clarks prices.

How about John Lewis or Daisy and Tom - they stock a variety of brands. You could try Naturino which come up wider than average.

hoxtonturkey · 27/12/2004 21:49

i second john lewis, they have lots of different brands. last time i had ds' feet measured there they sent us away as his feet hadn't grown - i was most impressed.

John Lewis are very very good. Will only sell if fit is perfect.

Get John Lewis to measure then buy trainers from JB sports? I love the teenage Saturday staff in there- they are dead helpful, though have no ideas about fitting...

misdee · 27/12/2004 22:10

johen lewis'. tho the local store here basically told i'd have to like or lump the styles they have, even tho i;d be paying £30+ for shoes for my 2yr old, and the shoes they had were horible imo!!

Charles Clinkard. Do you have any branches in London? There is another shop of theirs called Kids at Clinks. They sell Startrite, Kickers, Timberland and allsorts plus they measure and fit. If you feel like you may need to go back to Clarks though the best you can do is ask for Kids team leader, asst mgr or even mgr to measure and fit for you to be sure!

I also go to Jones. Someone on here said Brantano's were good.

My John Lewis experience has been mixed. Took dd to get some shoes when she had just started to walk & they wouldn't sell us any!!! Said to come back when she was walking more. I tried to explain that when she wanted to walk in the park etc she needed something that fitted - but they couldn't understand this. I told the assistants that at home she would be barefoot. They couldn't understand so got her shoes elsewhere - just a local shoeshop - ony too happy to sell some excellently fitted shoes.

Thanks everyone. I went to Dasiy and Tom today and got a nice pair of start rite shoes for him that fit well.

I wondered if anyone knows of any websites I can try to get good quality childrens shoes - something like Clarks or Start-Rite - but not at £30 a time?
Being a single parent, I have to make every penny count - but I do want my children to have good shoes.

Thanks

TooTicky · 13/01/2007 23:30

Start-rite are good (also most ethical big company) but find a shop you trust. I have had problems with Clarks.

amexonfire · 13/01/2007 23:35

Why don't you try la Redoute or Vertbaudet? Have always found their shoes very good quality leather and suede and about the same price as Clarks but much more original style and colours.
