Any bra fitting experts out there? What am I doing wrong?

I am pregnant and needed a new bra. My last bras were from Rigby and Pellar and were a lovely fit, but I didn't really want to spend £60 on a bra that I would only wear a short time, so I went to Bravissimo and had a fitting.

The bra seemed to fit fine in store, but when I wear it, if I move about (walking etc) the straps slip right off my shoulders. I got so fed up with it, I decided to order a new bra.

I went online to Figleaves, read all the reviews of maternity bras, picked an underwired one with excellent reviews and the same thing is happenning!

So, what am I doing wrong? The bras seem a good fit until I start moving around a while, then the straps will not stay up at all! I am spending the day sticking my hand into my shirt to pull them up - not a very attractive look!

So, do i bite the bullet and go back to Rigby and Pellar and spend a fortune? Or is there something simple I am missing that is making this happen?

You obviously have a body like mine since having children I just don't find bras to fit they way they do when I try them on.

Erm... you've tightened the arm straps, right?

lol....yes, tightening them makes no difference.

I find this with balcony bras, the straps are farther away on the shoulder and i have narrow shoulders.Annoying because I like balcony bras ..so I too hoik the straps up all the time too.

balcony bra see what I mean about the straps?

go back to Bravissimo and complain

Ex bra fitter here.
Not all styles will suit all women. If you have a balcony bra like in ggirls link, and you have narrow shoulders, the straps will fall off - you'll need to get a bra with the straps in the centre.

Also, if your bra is riding up at the back (ie the strap is higher up the back than at your front) it is because you are wearing a size too big (not cup size, just back size).

Bravissimo should have done a better job though - you should be able to go back and complain.

When buying bras, always try them on and swing your arms around/go for a walk to check that it is still comfortable.
