Which supermarket-brand nappies are any good?

Will be shortly coming out of Midi size 3 newborns, wondering which might be best non-Pampers/Huggies options for absorbency and leak-avoidance. Average of 5-6 changes a day at moment, FF and only one 'trauma-nappy' on a good day. My DD not yet mobile, but kicks legs a lot.

Whenever I have used pampers they have exploded and both DD and DS had terrible nappy rash.
Have no idea why.

if you are wanting to change for price then Sainsbury's ones were reliable if you are trying to avoid using the huge companies Nature baby disposables are reliable IME and a bit better for the environment.

nah we bought tesco nappies as they were on offer one week and were really cheap, and we got on fine with them, but when i went back in for nappies i went to lift tesco ones as i assumed they were much cheaper,BUT they werent, there was hardly any difference in the price,] i used tesco's once since and about 4 or 5 in the pack (of 25) the tabs ripped off the sides. i was very annoyed,so im sticking to pampers.

lydiathetattooedlady · 25/03/2008 17:11

definately asda's own, tried pampers, huggies and boots own and they were all rubbish compared to these! morrisons are good too!

lydiathetattooedlady · 25/03/2008 17:12

oh thought should add reasons why...
huggies leaked wee and pooh!
pampers exploded and gel went everywhere several times!
boots own-gave my daughter a rash round her belly!

theboob · 25/03/2008 17:15

Lidl are great for nappies and pullups. There wipes are the best too. Cheap as chips and really thick. Fantastic value for money

Wow, thanks all. Sainsbury's is my most convenient local supply, so interested in positive/negative views on theirs

Love Aldi and Lidl for nappies. Cheap and effective. Was using ASDA but they started leaking when they changed the design.

ScoobyDoo · 25/03/2008 18:42

Hmm i used sainsburys once because we lived next door to it but all honesty they were crap, went through alot as they did not hold much so you would probably buy double the packs.

DforDiva · 25/03/2008 22:09

used tesco pull ups since dd 1yr. never liked asda ones sooo plasticky
told lidl, aldi ones are good so about to try for ds.

MissHaversham · 25/03/2008 23:19

A big vote for Lidl, ds 21m and have used them from newborn.

Absolutely brilliant.

Ledodgy · 25/03/2008 23:20

Aldi are fab and very cheap.

Rowingboat · 26/03/2008 21:59

I think, for us, the problems with the Lidl nappies started when DS was over 2, possibly 2.5. Before that they had been fine and I bought them on the strength of recommendations on MN. We did only use them for nights and they just stopped working, when the bladder/pees got very big, kept leaking out of the side. We also tried Huggies, Pampers, Boots and Sainsbury and finally the George ones, recommended in the Which report last year. We still had the odd leak, but we found these were the best that we had tried. Shape of child is probably a big factor as well and the sleeping position may affect, side sleepers get the side leaks.

PixelHerder · 26/03/2008 22:15

Prefer Tesco Super Fit size 4's, or if you can get them, the Cien brand in Lidl - though Lidl seem to have switched to another brand called Toujours recently which are much harder and cardboardy so not nearly so good.

Just tried Pampers Baby Dry on offer and am disappointed, they are thinner but rely too much on the gel stuff which gets soggy very quickly. The smell and dampness seems to seep through very quickly to clothes

Notyummy · 26/03/2008 22:16

tesco are good

Aldi alright, but don't always cope 12 hours overnight.

Lomond · 27/03/2008 16:06

I have just bought some Aldi ones, very cheap and fine for daytime use. Stick to pampers at night though.

RubySlippers · 27/03/2008 16:16

LIDL - nappies, pull ups and wipes

rarely use anything else

mazzystar · 27/03/2008 16:18

The Asda enviomentally friendly ones are very good. Costco's own are good too, cheap but not so govd fvr the planet.
