if so, can you fit 3 car seats along the back?
is it expensive to run?
how do you find it in general?

Hi,

We bought a volvo estate when ds was born last year to accommodate all the gear we now have to lug around. Is an older model (T reg), very comfortable but is a gas guzzler. It could probably accommodate three car seats along the back, but (and it's a BIG BUT) the seat belts aren't long enough to get around the car seat we have (Silver Cross Ventura). We have to use a seatbelt extender.

Of course if you are buying a new car with the euro click thingy then it's not a problem.

Still, we do love the car

we have v70 that's just old enough to avoid £25 congestion.
I don't drive (yet) but DP says he thinks you could get 3 car seats in no prob.

I love it, it has arse-warming seats. 2001, £4000, first grown-up car we've ever had..

ViolentBunny · 21/03/2008 22:39

OBM we have the V70 too. Arse warming seats are feking great.

fingerwoman · 21/03/2008 22:40

i think he is warming to the volvo, that was my choice, and he said it's a middle-aged mans car lol
think its reputation has changed a bit recently though. must get him out to test drive one

We have a V70 and love it to bits,
Dorothy is indeed the 6th member of the family.
Has a built in child seat in the middle of the back seat, suitable from about 18months I think. Also has 2 child seats in the boot so it can seat 7, as long as 2 of them are kids!!! Can also pull a caravan/ carry a washing machine in the boot, also very safe, the police still use them as motorway patrol cars. Yes she drinks petrol but then I like chablis! All other estates are imposters!!!

wheelybug - does your friend like her Mazda? That is on our shortlist for replacing the Audi. Dh testdriving one later today.

csws - yes, Hitchin.

ClairePO - yes, rollerblind thingy. I pulled, it kept coming.

We do get good mpg from the Audi though - 45mpg (diesel).

wheelybug · 22/03/2008 16:48

I think so Muffin - but tbh being girls, we don't really sit around discussing the merits of our motors . We did consider when we got the Audi as it was cheaper but bigger. TBH though, we live in London and I think the A4 is plenty big enough

suzywong · 22/03/2008 16:50

yes yes
I have a Volvo V40

bloody lovely, not a massive square wagon but an estate none the less

I love it

(I broke my old 240 and dh bought me a nice new one .......yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee)

MuffinMclay · 22/03/2008 19:14

dh ruled out the Mazda - didn't like the feel of the gear change, apparently (whatever that means).

We too had an A6 - it was expensive to run (petrol), but we took ours to a local garage (as I agree on the expense at Audi dealerships) and it was not expensive to service. It drove beautifully and we cried when we had to get rid of it because......you can't fit 3 booster seats across the back. However, you can fit every other configuration - the big one 9m-3/4 yrs has to go in the middle and the boosters/new baby seats can go on either side. We had to buy new boosters though as our previous ones were too wide to fit! If you're having a 3rd it's not the ideal car and I would suggest a people carrier of some kind...you will regret an estate in a few years (believe me - we tried!!!)
