Dp bought an inflatable one - called a Holidoze - much to my initial dismay. But I have to say it has been fantastic, ds absolutely loves it! Its smaller and lighter than a traditional one and takes only a few minutes to inflate.

I much prefer it to the traditional one we had for dd, it never seemed very comfortable

I do also love the idea of the tent ones - this was the type dp had been sent to buy! great if you dont have a lot of space travelling

we took our ds camping when he was 4.5m old. It was blardy cold (colder than I'd thought ) but he slept in a bag on a pile of blankets between us and he was fine. In fact we'd bought the samsonite popup cot thingy and never used it.

this doesn't help at all with the travel cot question of coourse, just goes to show what SOME people will do to their poor dc's

What are you needing it for? Traditional one will see them through till 3ish. A possible put-away bed at grand parents? Will also double as a play pen / safe place to pop for a few minutes etc if they can't climb out. We've had lot's of caravan holidays and our was perfect. Those pop ups maybe won't do all that.

We had this one

OOOOOO terrible mis-use of apostrophe. Sorry!! " We've had lots ! "

The tenty ones are no good as soon as they get mobile imo.
The traditional ones are very large and heavy when folded up but we have used them for both boys and yes they are near the floor but we put a fleece blanket under the sheet and then the child in their usual sleeping bag.
Whereabouts are you I have the one that ds2 used once or twice (had 16m age gap so doubled up for a holiday last year) that I'm about to send to an nct sale.

My thoughts are, having never tried a pop up, that the traditional types are great - but weigh a tonne. If you want this for a small baby and frequent travelling I would go for a pop up. If you need it for a toddler, and may have a longer term use eg at home for friends with toddlers up to 3 staying over then buy a traditional. I got our traditional travel cot out the other day and was shocked at the weight and incredulous that we had dragged it through airports etc for years with DS1 - but never bothered with the younger two, who were put straight into hotel beds etc.

We have a traditional one which also has a bassinet bit which means that a baby who isn't rolling or pulling themselves up doesn't sleep so low down, agree with everyone who has said they are heavy and bulky. How old is your DC? we used an Amby hammock as DSs bed which packed up much smaller thsn the travel cot and meant he wasn't ina strange bed.
