Clark's Assistant informed me I need to spend £20-25 on shoes for DD every 6 weeks - is this true?

Took DD (14 months) into Clarks to buy her first proper pair of shoes and was quite surprised to find out they will set us back twenty odd quid - and that they will only last 6 weeks.

A new pair of shoes every 6 weeks .

I definitely want to put her is decent shoes that will let her feet grow properly etc but am a bit shocked at the price.

Does everyone do this - is there an alternative?

My DD must take the record for getting wear out of her shoes...her best was 10.5 months. We regularly used to get her feet checked and she got so upset when they hadn't grown, although I was pleased!!

Now we are living in Cyprus and have not had her feet measured since Sep. She is still on her same pair of school shoes and is ready to go into sandals....we tried on last years...yes they still fit just.

Like others highly recommend John Lewis...take time and trouble to get a good fit and find sale bargains too. ALso they do ask me if I want them a little bigger so they will last and that's a real bonus for us. Have promised DD a shoe trip to JL in summer when we visit home!!

Ds1 (22 months) has been in the same pair of shoes for 9 months.

They look a bit tired, but still fit fine.

DS has been in his first proper walking shoes since last September (I guess we've been lucky). When I bought them I checked his feet against them regularly but only took him to be measured properly after 3mths (obviously if they looked like they were getting to small I would have gone earlier). We had him measured two weeks ago and after ummming and arrhing the assistant said that one foot was almost in the next 1/2 size but as they didn't have any shoes in his size in stock wasn't that interested. We're out tomorrow so will probably get him re-measured and if necessary buy a pair.

anybody know where you can find a list of Clarks outlets?

My slowest growing child was in the same size shoes for 18 months at 3-4. But the fastest child grew out of shoes in 8 weeks, aged 4.

Poor dd3, 3, has never yet had a pair of new shoes as we have so many barely used ones in her size. I know you're not supposed to but the urge to recycle gets the better of me.
