About to order a tripp trapp - is the luxury harness worth a extra £10?

website suggests I buy both!
if you have a luxury one how hard is it to undo?

Don't know what their harness is like (maybe it's fab!), but we use a bog-standard cheapy harness on our tripp trapp and it works fine.

PrincessPeaHead · 10/03/2008 10:53

no
normal harness fine

Piffle · 10/03/2008 10:54

I use a scarf!!!!!

TheBlonde · 10/03/2008 10:55

the luxury harness comes in nicer colours

Piffle - how does the scarf work??

anyone else?

I just used normal reins. There wasn't any luxury harness available at the time. Reins worked fine.

TBh we found that we didn't need a harness very often anyway.

TheBlonde · 10/03/2008 12:29

Ah it appears the basic version is just a set of normal reins and the deluxe is the stokke harness

I used used a normal harness that I bought seperately. it was cheaper then ten pounds.

SheherazadetheGoat · 10/03/2008 12:33

lol@ luxury harness. how old is your child? do you need a harness?

pigleto · 10/03/2008 12:34

they have some on sale at back in action here in various colours.

Monkeybird · 10/03/2008 12:35

Previous experience, we used the harness for about 5 minutes till it got covered in crap and then realised we didn't really need any harness at all...

PS where are you ordering TrippTrapp from, please? I need another one imminently too!

cmotdibbler · 10/03/2008 12:35

We've never used the harness (well did the first time DS sat in the chair), but I have poor grip strength and just couldn't undo it. Ds couldn't get out of the chair anyway.
If you are interested, I was just going to list my baby set (high back, bar, cushions and harness) for 25 quid including postage. Bar and back are natural, cushions orange stripe and harness is natural.

TheBlonde · 10/03/2008 12:37

yeah I probably do need a harness
child is 1 year and has no need of a new highchair I just want one!

back in action seems to be the best place to buy

we certainly needed a harness when my children were that age, they were experts at escaping out of the chair, and the fall onto the tiled floor is a long one!

abigaillockhart · 10/03/2008 12:52

I also got both of mine from 'back in action'. Very quick delivery (24 hr). I can't imagine why you would need a harness - DD is still in the baby kit but I'm planning on taking it off soon as she climbs onto DS's with no problems.

abigaillockhart · 10/03/2008 12:54

Also, don't feel guilty about buying one for a one year old - I bought one for DD when she was 7 months and then promptly bought one for DS who was nearly three. I've never regretted it - I only wish I'd bought him one sooner.

MegaMindy · 10/03/2008 12:55

'I can't imagine why you would need a harness'

to keep the child safe of course

bundle · 10/03/2008 12:56

used normal reins too - with fasten at back therefore impossible for child to undo. why on earth would you not use a harness?

MegaMindy · 10/03/2008 13:00

bundle - I'm assuming that there are some children who don't do anything in their high chair except sit and eat. My children were quite the opposite - little expert escape artists - and I don't think that they were the exception - I'm sure many children are experts at escaping! Using the harness certainly saved me a few grey hairs.

SheherazadetheGoat · 10/03/2008 15:38

ifdd tried to get out i would just lift her out, and then by 18m she could get upa nd down quite safely herself. that is why ididn't need a harness.

abigaillockhart · 10/03/2008 15:49

MM, I meant in a Trip Trap - not generally. My DD has tried to escape but to no avail. Obviously from your post it is possible but from my experience I didn't think they could.

elfsmummy · 10/03/2008 15:54

I do have the tripp trapp harness (but don't use it - DD can get into her tripp trapp on her own - at 23 months - but can't escape yet!)

In answer to one of your questions the tripp trapp harness is actually really difficult to open (caused a minor panic when DD was choking at about 10 months and I couldn't get her out) In fact my mum can't open it at all!

I've solved it now. If you do go for it the trick is to just push the two buttons together and not try to pull it open at the same time (does that make sence?)It just pops open itself.

bettybeetroot · 10/03/2008 16:29

ds 1 has the 'luxery' harness - was very stiff for a week and now is easy to open close. he definately needs a harness as he is capable of climbing out. any harness would do - it just comes down to looks really (and finances!)
