I used a flask of hot water and the flask cup.

schneebly · 09/03/2008 18:25

this one takes about a year to heat up

Twiglett · 09/03/2008 18:29

there is actually no reason for them .. babies are fine with room temp stuff

I wouldn't bother .. never did with either of mine tbh

sazm · 09/03/2008 18:40

i had the one same as in schneebly's link and yep it takes FOREVER to heat a bottle(even up to room temp)
when we used to go out for the day i used to make up bottles and keep them in a cool bag with freezer packs to keep them cool,so i did NEED to heat it up before i could give it to bubby as it was cold(but fresh)
i used the fisherprice flask warmer for bottles, but baby food i used to take a jar if we were out and lo would happily eat it at room temp,

hana · 09/03/2008 18:52

just give at room temp - dd2 and dd3 had things this way

of course dd1 never did!

BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 18:56

thanks for the posts: I'm not worried about the milk, as I can give it to her from a carton, but we are travelling across europe and I need to take my own food for her as she will not eat from a jar, no matter how hungry, so I have to transport my own frozen, which I will need to heat for her.

If you heat food from frozen the guidelines are that you heat until piping hot then let it cool to room temp.

I wouldn't bother about taking food with no one will starve with a plate of food in font of them (says the one who's own ds lives off bread, cereal and fruits only)

BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 21:08

thanks, but I have to - she is my 3rd, so I know what she will and won't eat and I am fairly well schooled in food avoidance from my first two. so, does anyone have any suggestions as to my original question rather than just telling me not to do it?

Sorry to say that I had one similar to the one previously linked to and it was crap.

Could you use a flask of boiling water and a jug?

BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 21:18

I think you could be right - in between posting I have been looking at car kettles - maybe that is the way forward?

I have found one that is like a normal baby bottle warmer but with adaptor for a car. But it is a German website. Have a look though. here
There must be something like that in UK too.

The other thing is, are you likely to be stopping at motorway service stations? Most places now have facilities for warming up baby food.

accessorizequeen · 09/03/2008 21:23

Second the fisherprice flask warmer for milk, twas great with ds1's bottle and I use a stanley food flask for food still (ds2 is 15 months) but will you have access to a microwave. Once it's heated lasts up to 6 hours, it's great. Bit hard to give defrosted food to a baby cos it's not really room temp is it? I wouldn't eat it like that!
Possible to do more baby led weaning type things with her like babybel, pitta bread whilst you're on the road or is that impossible?

accessorizequeen · 09/03/2008 21:24

Ah x-post, if you're stopping at motorway stations they'll have microwaves. I got one from Dunhelm, but this is one from Amazon. Can't recommend highly enough, I use it every week!

BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 21:27

kinder - bless you - I live in germany so this will be easy. Thanks too Queen - do you find it keeps food hot? I have had a similar one years ago, but it really didn't keep the food warm at all

The FP flask thing looks good, just noticed that John Lewis have one specifically for baby food rather than bottles.

Scattybird · 09/03/2008 21:28

Take tap water and a little avent thingy. This does not kill children.

BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 21:29

kinder - you are a genius - thank you!!!!

Kindersurpise · 09/03/2008 21:29

Lol, did I have that info deep in my subconscious when I linked to that one? Have we met on the German thread?

BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 21:30

what is a little Avent thingy, scatty?

OP posts:
BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 21:30

quite possibly, Kinder - I do spazieren a bit!

accessorizequeen · 09/03/2008 21:31

If I overheat it a little it's fine, I usually heat it up and use it 2 hours after but I think we've done it 3 or four and it's been ok. I have quite a big one, you can get smaller ones which might be more suitable (my baby eats a LOT). Such a PITA isn't it?

BitLessTiredNow · 09/03/2008 21:33

ooooooh YESSSSS!!
