would recommend? I need to get one to go with my new kitchen - dont have huge budget. Used to have a Falcon in a previous life (I worked FT when we bought it!) and am looking at a 6 burner SS one, with 2 ovens - dont like the look of the belling ones (want sleek modern style this time round)- thought stoves/smeg maybe? anybody have one they love (or hate come to think of it)? they are so expensive I'd like recomendations!

Had brand new smeg range cooker in last house - hated it with a passion, broke down almost weekly and fan stayed on for an hour after it had been turned off drove me mad! Thankfully we moved

Had a green range cooker with the awful brass looking knobs haven't a clue what make it was, in a rented house.....awful to look at but great oven!

Haven't found one that both looks nice and is a great cooker yet....won't rest until I get my aga!

Same as Smurfs ... got new Smeg range (5 burners & 1 enormous oven) for new house/kitchen. Have spent a fortune on repairs. Find the stainless steel really really hard to keep clean. Wouldn't touch SMEG with a bargepole now.

ahh interesting i iwll cross them off. now baumatic or stoves anyone and is anyone selling one at all?

Here are few threads (I have been looking too, have decided to go for the 90cm rangemaster toledo). Was deciding between that and a smeg but glad to hear the smeg isn't up to much:

Research Fisher & Paykel cookers - we had one of their fridges and it was fantastic...but negotiated to leave it at house when we sold it

Belling was the make of the cooker in the rented house - ugly but such good ovens

GColdtimer · 07/03/2008 16:37

sorry, and here

sounds like you need a rangemaster toledo to me.

pooka · 08/03/2008 17:22

we have a rangemaster professional 90cm. I really really like it.
Is in stainless steel.

pooka · 08/03/2008 17:23

Has a griddle and wok stand as standard. Separate grill. Recently obought the retrofit grill slider which is good.

GColdtimer · 08/03/2008 17:33

pooka is it difficult to keep the stainless steel clean?

GColdtimer · 08/03/2008 17:33

pooka, is it difficult to keep clean (ie, does it show every fingerprint!)

GColdtimer · 08/03/2008 17:43

oops, sorry!

pooka · 08/03/2008 20:28

I haven't had any difficulty keeping it clean. I bought a product called "steel kleen" (by hillmark) which is a cleaner/repellant. Just spray and wipe. Baby oil is very very good for making the stainless steel glisten too.
I was a bit concerned before we bought it about fingerprints and grime, particularly as we also have a ss splashback and hood. But actually, in practice I rarely touch the actual doors (and nor do dcs), so it's just the handles that get fingerprints which are dead easy to wipe off. The splashback I have found to be a breeze to keep clean in comparison with tiles that we used to have.
HTH.

lovecat · 08/03/2008 20:35

Oi! I have that 'awful' green rangemaster with the brass rails/knobs and I love it!

However, I would say that if I were buying another, I would go for one with more burners (mine has 4, a cast iron hotplate and a 'warmer') as I barely use the hotplate & warmer, and I wouldn't go for an electric grill again as it only seems to really work on 'full mega-bastard-hot' setting and consequently sets off the smoke alarm every time I want a sausage...

Smurfs · 09/03/2008 11:41

...I don't think it is the most attractive looking cooker ever made but I do think it is a very good cooker in terms of doing it's job, I am sure your souffles rise beautifully and your roast potatoes are beyond lovely and as for your Victoria Sponges well...they just can't be beaten

throckenholt · 09/03/2008 13:07

just a word of warning - you may find the build quality of the rangemaster disappointing if you are used to a falcon (albeit they are just a bit over half the price).

We splashed out on a falcon and are very happy with it.

brimfull · 09/03/2008 13:12

we have a brittannia one and are really pleased with it.

brimfull · 09/03/2008 13:14

except ours has 6 burners unlike the photo

cremolafoam · 09/03/2008 13:16

i have the same smeg oneas ska and smurfs- but i like it.yes it is hard to keep clean but i put everything in the dishwasher and it is fine.the only thing i would reconsider is having a twin oven instead of a giant one- it is pretty costly to run when all you want to do is warmup one croissant.
i still love it though and would probably get it again.
i do like hose britannia ones they can make in any colour.

GColdtimer · 10/03/2008 07:40

thanks pooka, that is me decided then!
