Tummy tub or conventional baby bath?

Dc3 is due in a few weeks.

Ds always shared a both with dh in the early days.

dd got a top n tail most times and an occasional bath.

With dc3 I'd like to let the older children 'help' a little, plus dh has a hideous commute now and won't be part of the bedtime routine for the newborn phase.

Always fancied a tummy tub, dh would love one (he's a gadget freak), but do babies actually like them as much as the blurb seems to make out?

Would a normal bath be just as good?

(Can't use a hammock/support as our big bath is slightly sunken into the floor so impossible to bath a newborn in - fine once they're sitting up though.)

TIA

personally i think they are a con. They can only be used for a short while and are quite price. Agree with lennygrrl on this one.

I guess I can can sell it on Ebay after I'm finished with it - they seem to go for up to half price.

Or use it as a bin

DDwas bathed in the kitchen sink for ages, we had no decent bathroom in the house we had just moved into.
It was eaier really, at waist level, no backache leaning over bath.
We then got one of those lay back support things for the big bath.

Just found a fab pearlescent baby bath in ASda for £2.47!!!! So for that price I think I can still consider investing in a tummy tub too. I've seen the stands on ebay before - that's interesting what you say about back pain - something I definitely want to avoid this time round. I make quite big babies and I'm only 5ft so lifting is always hard after the birth.

sO excited about actually buying things for baby now

Thanks everyone!

I have a tummy tub and my DD loves it. She doesn't slip and slide about as she did in a normal baby bath and i was always left with a hand free. Now at 15 weeks she can sit up on her own (with me hovering to hold her) and splash about. It's great for colic and it stays warm a long time too.

Also good for soaking dirty clothes in!!

Ah - Lucky - you;ve mentioned the "C' word!!

DD had terrible colic and windy pains for the first 9/10 months - anything that could have soothed her would have been fab.

That would sell it to me alone

We're one of those who love the tub!! We've used it from 4 days old until yesterday!! We have finally accepted defeat and bought a (big) conventinal baby bath from Ikea now that DS is 6 months old and a bit big for it now!

Tips... we found it difficult to wash hair in the tub past about 8 weeks, so practice your rugby ball hold!

When our DS was very tiny, we found bathing was easier as a 2 person job, one to hold under the armpits & chin, and one to reach in to the water and wash the bits, so it will definately be easier to have your other kids around to help.

We had a Bebe Jou one like the one in Mammatulip's link and our DS loved it! We used it until he was 7 months old. It was great for keeping him warm because the water came up to his chin instead of being half in half out of water in a conventional baby bath.

WaynettaSlob · 10/03/2008 11:00

We had a sunken bath and used this for both DSs - it works fine, you just need to have your shoes and socks off so you can have your feet in the bath for easy access!

DS no3 just gets a very quick dunk before the boys go in the tub while they pull their clothes on he gets wrapped in a towel while they get in dried and dressed as they splash.. I just wouldn't have time otherwise.. environmentally water friendly!! LOL
