Well it's a bloody godsend to us - well worth the money!!! Our dd was and is a good sleeper though, me and dh were just lazy sods who wanted some extra child-free time in bed!

LIZS · 02/03/2008 07:30

ds had one - they soon learn to press the buttonto wake him up when they want but it idd the trick for a while. Broke though.

peggotty · 02/03/2008 07:33

think how successful they are really depends on the peronality of the child - as lizs says some learn how to turn it on themselves - my dd is 3 and has only done that once. My dd is the type of child who doesn't like to be 'in trouble' iykwim so generally if she's told not to touch something, she won't. Yes I am lucky

CaptainDippy · 02/03/2008 08:54

My DD is similar pegotty (no liking to be told off) so perhaps it would work with her!!?

More opinions please!!

hahaha - this would so not work with my children - they would ignore it whatever we said.

I think that means it depends very much on your child and their personality and if they would buy into such a thing.

castille · 02/03/2008 09:05

We had one for DD and it was useful for weekend lie-ins.

The only problem we had is that she slept with blackout shutters so couldn't see what bunny was doing without turning the light on

Whizzz · 02/03/2008 09:23

Worked wonders for us - although I know some on here don't like it. It's still in use so can't be without it I'm afraid !

ghosty · 02/03/2008 09:44

We had one.
Waste of money.
Just be patient ... when your child is 8 he can get up, get his own breakfast (and that of his younger sibling), feed the cat and put the tv on all by himself.
We are hoping that at 10 he will bring us breakfast in bed.

NotQuiteCockney · 02/03/2008 09:47

We use a timer switch with a nightlight plugged into it. When the nightlight comes on, DS1 can get up. The buttons on the timer switch are too fiddly for him to monkey with.

Seona1973 · 02/03/2008 12:45

we used fairy lights on a timer and when they lit up dd could come through. Now she is 4 she has a digital clock in her room and when it says 7.00am she can come through. Sometimes she has a lie in till 7.02am

FrannyandZooey · 02/03/2008 12:47

can the child recognise any numbers on a digital clock? this is working for us, to some extent, now we have covered up the other numbers which confuse him

we just adjust the time each night so it says '7' when we want him to get up

chocolateteapot · 02/03/2008 13:37

The Bunny clock was a complete waste of money. We did what Franny did with a digital clock which worked a treat.

SlightlyMadSecretSoundWinner · 02/03/2008 13:41

A friend had one.

She laid awake waiting for bunny to wake up on hte first morning
The ears popped up with a start and scared the shit out of her.

She would not allow it in her room after that.

melsy · 02/03/2008 13:45

This is the one we used and it was/is very effective. They cant change the time on it that easily. kids sleep clock. I bought it through the original makers web site and may have been a little cheaper.

I will be getting one for dd2 also next yr when she might understand it more.

jennifersofia · 02/03/2008 14:15

Dropped on floor (carpet) on the second night, ear broke off and ceased to work.

CaptainDippy · 02/03/2008 19:46

Thanks for tips - like the idea of fairy lights / night light on a timer.

DD still gets quite confused with her numbers, bless her, so not sure how effective the digital clock idea would be; but may be worth a try. Kids Sleep Clock looks good - is that alarm loud. DD1 shares with DD2 and I don't want her woken up!!

We have one.

Works a treat here.

Every night I say

"and you can come and have a cuddle when........"

and the dds chime in together

"when Mr Bunny wakes up".

Saying that it did take a long time to get them to stay in bed until he woke up (lots and lots of returning to bed, and lots and lots of positive reinforcement when they did). Howvwever without him we would, I'm sure, still be getting our morning visitors at 5.30am so all the work has absolutely paid off.

I heart Mr Bunny.

Nicecupofwine · 02/03/2008 19:55

We put our rabbit clock on top of dd1 wardrobe so she can't reach it but can still see it. She totally understands but at 3.5 she tests the boundaries every now and then. It took a lot of repeating on its introduction (for several weeks) but with perseverance on the whole it works a treat.

peggotty · 02/03/2008 19:59

Captaindippy it's the kidsleep clock we have not the one where the bunny's ears move - it has an alarm but you don't have to use it - we just have the illuminated 'bunny in bed' and 'bunny awake' on, not the alarm.

katyt1 · 02/03/2008 20:07

worked for a bit, then ds broke it, i have fixed it, but hadn't got past the dark so can't see the bunny issue yet.
have been thinking about lighting to keep him in his room playing for a bit...night light plugged in, ok re any electric issues???

back to clock, must be out of reach, as the knobs on the back are too easy to twiddle, and button is too easy to press, plus the ears snap easily too.

main drawback (in our better sleep days anyway) is can only be set for less than 12 hrs...i know 12 hrs would be a godsend now at 7-6 (if we're lucky!) but back then he regularly slept 7-7. so if they go to bed at 7pm, you have to set it for before 7am, or sneak in later to set it for after 7am.

will go and look at the other one now.

iamdingdong · 02/03/2008 20:10

ours worked until MIL told the DTs that bunny must have 'slept in' and it was ok to get up even though he wasn't awake ...so I have a pink bunny clock if anyone's after one!

Piffle · 02/03/2008 20:12

good in summer when its light but in winter dd could never easily see bunny ears so had to get up, turn on light to check!

pigsinmud · 02/03/2008 20:15

Had bunny ears one for ds1 - he worked out how to pop the ears up or else the ears popping would wake him up. Ears broke in the end.

Have kidsleep one for dd1. Got it about a month ago after months of her in & out of our room any time from 1am. It worked perfectly first night and ever since. It's fab. She likes it as tends to get worried in the dark. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you set it and not your child ... dd1 pushes the button one setting too far and we end up with the alarm!

Piffle · 02/03/2008 20:34

there is a better one that uses soft lights. Think the grobag folks bumpto3 stock them

CaptainDippy · 03/03/2008 11:33

Thank you guys, this is great - DH is going to set up some Fairy lights on a timer tonight and see how we go. DD1 actually slept til 7.15am this morning, which was a absolutely wonderful - pretty sure there won't be a repeat tonight though!
