Right - DS who is 1 is a typical boy - always on the move - stairs are great fun!

We have a stairgate across lounge which keeps him in the room when we are in there, but when I go to kitchen, he makes a beeline for the stairs!

So what do we do - the gap is 102cm and that is between the wall and the stair post - which is rounded - so hard to fit anything to.

Anyone had the same problem and solved it? I can keep the kitchen door shut, but soon he will master that!! Plus I have a 6 year old and she gets upset if door is closed, also problem if he is at the door when she opens it - queue for another bumo to his head!

Any advice appreciated!

My friends didn't a brilliant thing they made a box that fitted over the bottom few stairs making the bottom "stair" about a metre high lasted a good while before baby could get up it plus everyone else could manage the step no fiddly gates to open.

Yep - need one of tthese Its a lascal stair gate but works like a roller blind - we have just bought one from kiddicare, although I cant seem to find it on their website at the moment.

We have the opposite problem have moved and have a very adventurous 19month old wanting up the stairs (in lounge and no door) but the stairs are very narrow and the only one we found are screw-fir, not ideal in a newly renovated and decorated house thats rented!

wouldn't it be better to have a stairgate across the kitchen instead of closing the door

andyrobo237 · 02/03/2008 20:19

I have had a look at those roller gates - but need to see how they attach before I part with any cash!

I had thought of getting a portable stairgate for across the kitchen door as we can the use it upstairs to keep him out of DD room - he has a tendancy to climb up onto her bed!

I like the box idea, but DH pulled a face - so that means no!!

We have a BabyDan outlet shop nearby so will go there and have a look later in the week - at the moment we are using two huge nappy boxes to contain him - they were on special offer at Costco!!!!!

They have to screw into one side, and have catches on the otherside - a bit complicated to explain, and even more complicated to fit but it was the only thing that would work for us as we have wonky doors, skirting boards and banister

Andy - Just seen you are in liverpoool - whereabouts is the Baby dan outlet - we are after one of the big cages pens to tryand keep ds off the fire/tv/dvd/cat/door.

Why is it always boys????

It is Burscough on the industrial estate - is only open 3 or 4 days a week, but everything is at least 20-30% cheaper than the shops! I am hopefully going today if they are open, so will let you know prices, etc!
