anyone used persona for contraception?

We are fast running out of options here!!!

I can't take the combined pill cos of migraines, got pregnant twice on minipill, don't want the coil as I suffer from heavy periods anyway, condoms are just a no go. I am on the depo injection at the moment and though its great for having stopped my periods, its shut everything down to the point that its totally killed any sex drive I had......I think DH is fed up of the bathroom!!!! Grin lol. Was thinking about this persona thing. I know its only 94% effective but at the end of the days its better than nothing at all and if I did get pregnant somewhere along the line, it wouldn't be the end of the world.....

So do you think it would be a good idea or can anyone think of any thing else please????

The Mirena coil is great and is used as a treatment for heavy periods - hassle-free contraception

MaryChristmas · 13/12/2004 16:47

Well we used it like you are thinking and three years fine and now have a baby.
A bit bothersome at first but soon got the hang of it and the test sticks. Quite pricey though after a while.

motherinfestivemood · 13/12/2004 16:48

Several eminent Mumsnetters used it as contraception. Which is why they are mums.

A friend of ours used it, and thought it was quite an easy method of contraception. How effective it was, however, can be guaged by the fact that we met her at NCT ante-natal classes ...

Raindog · 13/12/2004 16:58

I used it both as contraception and then when I was ttc. It was really reassuring to be told when I was ovulating and I got pregnant the first month we tried! I guess it might only be really effective if your periods are quite regular. I just like not having any additional hormones - I've got enough of my own! Don't like the idea of most forms of contraception at all. The downside is that obviously you get a 'red light' when you're feeling most like having sex Grin

Flumberrysauce · 13/12/2004 17:01

Got to be better than the catholic withdrawal. Which we used and I got pregnant first weekend in the sack. I'm gonna go and do talks at schools on being careful!!

Flumberrysauce · 13/12/2004 17:01

Pregnant twice on mini pill!!!!!!

I'm on that.

heymissytoe · 13/12/2004 17:04

HIJACK!!! I have been meaning to ask the same thing about CALISTA and using it as a contraceptive - uses saliva instead of pee and so you don't have to buy sticks and after initial outlya of 30 quid the unit lasts for two years - and you don't have to wait until you can pee you just lick the lense and check - and so it sounds good BUT I can't use the damn thing - it strains my eyes when I try to look at it and I still haven't found what I'm supposed to be seing - just plastic with funny yellow haze and eye strain / eye ache if there is such a thing. I can't take contraceptive pills as they give me high blood pressure. Doc stopped presribing them about 10 years ago and suggested I cross my legs when I asked what do I do now? No joke.

So please help me too. Also I know that after having a baby your fertility is very high - 2 weeks after dp and I began trying for a baby, i.e. stopped taking precautions clear blue tested positive with a big fat cross. DD is now 10 months so perhaps this is not the best time to think about natural family planning methods? Or should I start a new thread Titania you can tell me to hop and start a new thread I won't be offended - Can anyone help?

feastofstevenmom · 13/12/2004 18:09

diaphragm?

cerazette - new mini-pill that's meant to be more effective?

natural family planning - meant to be pretty reliable if you chart etc very thoroughly

Mirena (hormonal coil) meant to make periods lighter/disappear bit like depo

feastofstevenmom · 13/12/2004 18:09

and spose for sake of thoroughness should mention the good old femidom, female condom

blueteddy · 13/12/2004 18:57

I used persona as contraception about 6 years ago & ended up getting pregnant as a result!
That pregnancy ended in miscarraige & I then went onto the mini pill ( as I could not trust persona!), took it late & got pregnant with ds1!!
I would not reccomend persona as birth control, unless u r not 2 bothered about pregnancy, as I have heard of lots of other women getting pregnant while using it.
Oh & it is very expensive 2!

If you are willing to invest some initial time and effort in understanding your fertility then you could try the Billings Method. My mum used to teach it to those that were interested years ago when she was a HV (mainly for conceiving purposes although the principle is the same).

if i did get pregnant again it wouldn't be the end of the world. But after that then we are back to square one. I'm still as confused as before.........short of sterilisation I don't know what to do for the best.........

Do not trust your body's rhythms and clockwork menstrual cycle. If you don't believe me, just ask DD1.

Rafaella · 13/12/2004 22:41

I used Persona after our third child and as a result now have another gorgeous boy. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wuldn't secretly be delighted with another little one!

merrykittymas · 13/12/2004 22:51

2 women at work used it and got pregnant within a month of one another, one got a green light one day had a you now what the next day it was red she was very happy though

I was lying in bed last night thinking what it would be like to be pregnant again (DD 4 months) wouldn't be a good time right now but we have been a bit naughty recently DP not very good at the withdrawal method and still breastfeeding.
