QUinny VS petit star zia- Your thoughts???

Clarabumps · 25/02/2008 19:44

Does anyone have either of these...i'm contemplating buying one and unsure of what to buy...i have a maclaren at the moment and the fillings in my teeth feel like they're loosening everytime i go over a bump. How is the suspension on the petit star? i'm having trouble finding one in "real life" to have a wee play with...boo hoo! Any feedback would be much appreciated!!!Cheers

The Zia is impossible to push one-handed & veers badly even on smoothish pavements. Feels a little flimsy too.

Sold mine & bought a Zapp instead, much better quality, much easier to push. Just depends how important the recline feature is for you - mine is just for keeping in the car (have a Mountain Buggy which is a bit bulky to be dragging in & out of car)

sazm · 25/02/2008 23:16

i love my zapp,my dd is 2 so it doesnt matter to me that it doesnt recline,
i do like the look of the petite star zia too as it has basket/reclines and looks MUCH easier to fold/unfold,
how old is your lo? would you be using for long periods? or nipping to shops?

Lolasmummie · 26/02/2008 00:25

I just recently bought a zia and although i didn't fall in love with it straight away (seemed flimsy compared to the huge m&P pram that i was use to) i now think its excellent - except for the way the backrest reclines/ the silly basket you can't get into without shoving your LO forward/its inability to go in a straight line if you push with one hand/ doesn't close properly if you have the footmuff attached , lol but i do think its good! Is nice and light and reasonably easy to unfold (if its true that the quinny unfolds at the touch of a button then it puts the zia to shame. My LO seems very happy in her Zia and the seat is quite roomy so should last for a couple of years. One thing i was really impressed with is the rain cover- it comes free with the zia and goes over the whole thing rather than just covering the baby and letting the rest of the pram get soaked.

Like yourself i was stuck between a Zap or Zia - but it was the recline that did it for me (was v.important as LO is 6mo). No regrets. so far!

Lolasmummie · 26/02/2008 00:30

oh bugger forgot to say about the suspension -

I think its really good. Is nicely 'bouncy' and feels light but still sturdy when going over bumpy bits.
can something be light but sturdy? sorry im so sht at explaining things! best thing to do is go and have a play with one. Or if you order from Boots (where i got mine) you can take it all out the box at home and have a fiddle and you can return it for free aslong as you have left a certain tag attached to the harness

brilliant ladies...that's great! my wee one is 8 months and falls asleep quite easily in his maclaren whenit is upright. (just because sometimes i don't notice when i'm walking into town.) i originally had a silver cross which was amazing for long walks but impossible to get into a car unless you had a transit van. feel as though i should maybe try and get the use out of my maclaren but you know when you just take an instant dislike to something??dunno how i'm going to explain to my partner that i've bought Another buggy??eek! i'm sure i'll think of something...thanks again!!
think i'm going to just get one from boots and have a play in my living room.ah...buggies become the new shoes when you become a mum...at least they have the practical aspect!

Would definately reccomend the zia if your one is small but must say i had one and only for a few weeks as the steering is awful, the zapp is much better quality but the recline is obviously an issue. Also have you checked out the bruin presto? This reclines but looks much sturdier than the zia (although i have not tried it).

kbaby · 02/03/2008 11:50

trying to decide over the same issue myself. I want one for holidays for ds who is 19 months. He will prob be aseep in it at some point so I did think the zia was better but not sure. The bruin one has had terrible reviews as has the mcclaren pulse and m&p luna which are al similar in esign to the quinny and zia.

Is the steering on the zia really that bad?

amazonianwoman · 02/03/2008 21:07

In a word, yes!

ovenbunny1 · 03/03/2008 10:09

Definately!!! I even had trouble steering it on smooth floors in shops! Guess if the recline is that important you need to get yourself a mamas and papas ziko or maclaren quest.

sazm · 03/03/2008 13:43

how about a luna?

kbaby · 03/03/2008 22:12

The luna reviews I read say that it tips forward very easy and the shoulder straps arent secure enough. many people have already complained to m&p.

So the quinny zapp- If ds does fall asleep, is it so upright that his head will flop forward?

amazonianwoman · 03/03/2008 22:41

My friend's daughter fell asleep in my Zapp last week - her head didn't flop forward at all, she looked fine. She's 22mths.

dt1234565 · 04/03/2008 13:04

My son fell asleep in the car today, got him out of the care and into the zapp and he slept for another hour. His 21 months. My daughter has slept in it too and she is 3 + 3 months. Its also a good investment for the future should any others arrive! I have a 3g buggy board attached to mine for my toddler as well, you cannot get a buggy board on the zia.

dt1234565 · 04/03/2008 13:10

Only thing that could improve a zapp in my eyes is a shopping basket but you can get the things that go underneath from ebay, which would surfice for any little nick nacks. Only issue is recline, apart from that I love it and I have had about 8 or 9 buggies in the last three years. I will deinately be keeping the zapp though. Only other thing if you buy one is the 1, 2 ,3 opening method. I find it easier to open the wheels first (No.3) and then do the 1 and 2 buttons and the same when collapsing, I collapse the wheels first and then fold the buggy down, it then goes up and down much much easier.

dt1234565 · 04/03/2008 13:17

P.S. Buy one! Get it second hand off ebay keep looking till you see one near to you to save on postage, check gumtree.com and preloved.co.uk or do a wanted to netmums. If you buy used and dont like it you will almost certainly get most or all of your money back on a resale.

dt1234565 · 04/03/2008 14:32

P.P.S. Test one! Run one around in Mothercare or Toys R Us and see how you feel about it.

kbaby · 13/03/2008 16:14

I got my zia today and its fab, steering good, suspension is light and bouncy, folds up easily and smallish.
Ds seems comfy in it.

The only downside is the fafing about to get it to recline, overall 9/10

TheBlonde · 25/04/2008 21:29

bumping as also thinking about these buggies

do they both come with travel bags or are they extra?

TheBlonde · 26/04/2008 09:35

TheBlonde · 27/04/2008 09:14
