Just in case mine isn't fixable of the insurers won't pay, I need ideas for a washer around £350.

Ideally it would be/have -

Water efficient.

Only needs around 3 cycles so nothing fancy.

Can cope with very heavy duty use.

Bigger than average drum.

Time delay would be a bonus.

I dunno about all the specifics but I'd suggest anything German! I know they're now Electrolux-AEG but I've had my AEG washer for 13 years now and never once had to have it repaired (it'll break now I've said that)

If I had to i'd replace it with a Bosch or Siemens one now...

They sound expensive...

The insurers will pay for a comparable machine but we might be able to pay the extra ourselves.

nab ive always had zanussi machines - there are loads under £350 and they do a 7kg load one too

i woud really recommend them

Thank you.

He still hasn't turned up so I am none the wiser at the moment.

I bought an AEG (think they are German) It is brilliant.

I'm scared to say it, just in case I jinx it. It has been my best buy.
I wash 2/3+ full loads EVERY DAY. Had it for 4 years and it has never needed to be repaired or replaced.
I've had other makes (whirlpool/creda/zanussi) in the past that after a couple of years have needed replacing.
When I need to replace I will be getting another AEG.
I'm sure you will get one for £350 or under.

I was just going to start a thread on this! My washing machine broke down in the middle of the night, leaving us with a big pile of very wet washing! DP is going to launderette this afternoon to dry it all!

We decided we should get a new one as this is about 9 years old and has been threatening to die for a while now. We were considered a washer/drier - has anyone any experience of those? We don't have a drier at the minute so would only use it for emergencies.

After speaking to a few people at work Bosch seems to be a favourite.

miele are ££££££££££££

Nemoandthefishes · 21/02/2008 11:29

We just bought a bosch which has arrived this morning. Was £357 and takes a 7kg load..is a bit fancy but then found most of them were. Dh works for comet and asked service engineers which ones they go out to and which they recommend and they actually didnt recommend miele because of them lasting so long..means they can actually cost you more in the long run due to water consumption and energy rates changing. They said avoid hotpoint and indesit like the plague and that bosch and AEG were ones they went to least like miele.

Nemoandthefishes · 21/02/2008 11:30

oh and cheapest miele was £550 and only 5kg load.

I actually did this thread last week...lol

AllieBongo · 21/02/2008 11:31

don't get a beko. they are shit.

iwouldgoouttonight · 21/02/2008 11:34

I've just been scouring the internet for washing machine reviews busy working, and general opinion definitely seems to be Bosch and AEG for the best mid range (although the one we currently have is Indesit and has lasted 9 years and three house moves and never needed repairing so maybe we were lucky!)

Apparently its better to pay for a basic better brand washer rather than a cheap brand that does loads of extra stuff but is more likely to break (obvious I suppose!)

Nemoandthefishes · 21/02/2008 11:37

Iwould indesit and hotpointr 8-10yrs ago wre decent machines[we just lost our 9yr old hotpoint] which put up with 2/3washes a day for the last 4yrs but now they have amalgemated[sp?] and make them cheap to last 3/4yrs.

ShinyDysonHereICome · 21/02/2008 11:41

AEG came out well on the which reports- I have ordered one of their washer dryers for £390 from Dixons - if you google they are offering £10 off any purchases over £250 so their prices came out cheaper after hours of searches

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 21/02/2008 12:26

He has gone.

Machine fixed.

Pressure switch was faulty and the brushes were worn down through all the use. New parts put in and washer now doing what it should be doing.

Bill was £113.90 but the insurance will pay that.
