I am in the process of gathering bits for DS who is due in May but I am struggling to remember all the essential things I'm likely to need! The budget is fairly tight so I don't want to be buying things I won't really need. Have got all the major stuff, cot, buggy etc but it is the little things.

So far I have trawled through DD's baby clothes and pulled out and washed everything that I can use for DS. I also have about 9 sleepsuits size 0-3 months and a few vests.

What else do I need? I have a list of things that I consider to be essential but would value your words of wisdom/advice:

Moses basket (DD didn't like the cot until she was about 9 months)
Nappies
Bibs
Cotton Wool
New cot mattress
Bottles
Sterilising fluid/tablets
Muslin squares

I know I have left something off, so please give me your opinions! TIA

Changing mats are currently £5 in Asda, which means you can get a couple for up/downstairs.

Foam bath supports are about £7 means don't need a baby bath, DS loves it and has used it since birth.

Cellular blanket for swaddling.

Thanks for those. I've got all the cot bedding etc from when DD was tiny (went a bit mad!), have bottle brush and sterilising tongs.

Trying to hold off buying a coat until he is here for sizes. Bought DD a beautiful snow suit just before she was born, thinking 0-3 months would be ok. It was huge and didn't fit her properly until the summer which by then was no good.

Will definately invest in a bath support. DD had one and it was brilliant. Trying to convince DH we don't actually need a baby bath if we have a support but he's having none of it. I reckon he's more excited this time because he's a boy and so into buying everything, even if we don't actually need it

i found a bath a waste of money completely esp if you dont have a massive bathroom! And top and tail bowels aswell! They are always huge! I ended up with a little plastic tupperware bowel which i could use after and could fit in change bag for when we went out

Yep, the bath thing is a battle of wills at the moment but hey if he's paying and wants to waste his money on something we just don't need then that's his problem . I have a top and tail bowl from the first time round and agree that it was a waste of money.
