Sandpits?

Can anyone recommend a good one? I need one with a cover (lots of cats around)that will last left outside for a good few years...

Or does anyone think that they are a waste of time and money? I think DS (16m) would get a lot out of one but you never know do you!

Oh yes, the dcs love them and I loathe their very existence. If you get one, be prepared to spend the summer (and much of the autumn) getting sand out of your house. No matter how mnay times I explain that the sand stays outside, it falls upon deaf ears.

I have the wooden one from ELC here which has a canvas cover which has survived winter and cats: sandpit

Thanks GooseyLoosey, that looks a nice one. I suppose that if it isn't sand it will be soil and we will probably have both trampled around the house anyway...

Yes, but sand is so much harder to get out than soil. What I particularly hate is that for some reason it always ends up in my bed! However, as I said, my dcs (who were 2 and 4 last summer) loved it.

Oh no sandy bed!!! will have to decide how much I am willing to sacrifice for him....

I think that this one is fab - a picnic table with sand underneath the table bit. Expensive though - I am trying to work out whether I can justify it for ds2's birthday.

Alambil · 19/02/2008 12:24

Birdy arms it is cheaper from ELC (£100); still a lot, but £50 cheaper than the other one

Thanks LewisFan - didn't know that ELC did them!

I got the naturally playful sand table made by Step 2. It's on the Tesco direct website for £40.00. It's been well played with by a 2 and 5 year old. Table ones are great - easy to sweep the mess away and reduces mess on child because they can't climb in! Also we have ours at the bottom of the garden - more scope for some sand to fall away before they make it inside. I fancied the ELC one too but I saw it instore and the sand tray is quite shallow. Alse DH thought wooden slatted cover wouldn't keep all the weather out - they sell a plastic cover to put over it as well. Extra money and hassle!

do the wooden ones go rotten though? that's what i would worry about. although i suppose the cover would stop that happening?
