best - Green baby organic cotton cellular blankets. well worth the money. so soft. have got piles of mothercare cellular blankets which will never be used cos this one is dreamy. can't reccomend highly enough

worst - a fluffy outdoor suit with ears and mouse feet from baby gap - looks supercute but doesn't zip open enough to get on and off easily, my baby is small 7lbs, but imppossible to get in and out of the 0-3 months, and lo is too hot.

Best - tricotti sling, muslim squares, later didymos sling

Worst - oh so many things (DS has bad colic, I threw money at the problem) I think the very very worst was this teddy bear thing that made womb sounds.....

theboob · 19/02/2008 10:39

best-a second hand tomy sling (they dont make them like they used to)

worst-bumbo he hated it and screamed whenever i put him in it

tasjaSAmuminUK · 19/02/2008 10:40

Best - Fisher Price Cradle swing, muslin squares, bottles

Worst - bottle warmer - DD only drank cold milk

MrsMattie · 19/02/2008 10:42

Best: McClarens stroller. Didn't realise how quickly I would need to abandon heavy, overpriced 3-in-1 pushchair for a lightweight buggy. Invaluable.

Worst: Baby bath. Too heavy and cumbersome, and he grew out of it within weeks. Was easier have DS in the bath with me or DH.

Best: vibrating bouncy cradle,ring sling,dummy

Worst:zapp,ok when used with car seat but useless as a stroller and imposable to use alone on public transport as you need 3 hands to fold it and 1 to hold the baby.

TillyScoutsmum · 19/02/2008 11:09

Best - Amby's Natures Nest, Bumbo, Muslins

Worst - Tripp Trapp High chair, deckchair bathseat, door bouncer

lynniep · 20/02/2008 12:17

Best - jumperoo. He loved it and it kept him safe and occupied. Blinking expensive though. Also currently his wooden brick trolley - he spends the whole time charging about the house with it, collecting stuff like slippers and important letters as he goes

Worst - Baby swing pointless, but was donated so not too bothered. Beautiful rocking Donkey from Vertbaudet - he's only interested in pulling its ears. Bl**dy avent bottles. Leak leak leak. Baby shoes. Seriously pointless until they're a bit older. Daft clothes that button down the back.

PixelHerder · 20/02/2008 16:39

oooh tons...

Best - cot top changer (saves your back and takes up much less space than a changing table); MacLaren Techno XT; dummy and Soother Savers (the string & clip things that attach the dummy to the child); moses basket; Ikea Antelop highchair; Gap socks

Worst - towelling sling device to put in bath; any sippy cups except Tommee Tippee basic ones; tiny pairs of jeans and tights (which just look uncomfortable and wrong on small babies imho)

PortAndLemon · 20/02/2008 16:49

Best Miracle Blanket for swaddling, and battery-powered swing (opposite experience from many on here I was never ever ever going to buy such a thing, but eventually after seven napless weeks I cracked and DS slept in it, restoring my fragile sanity)

Worst -- bottle and food warmer that I'm not at all sure why I even bought.

Best: gro-bags, plastic bath chair type thingy that baby could lie in, baby bjorn sling, McClaren buggy - essential if you live in city and use public transport!, GAP baby socks (they do stay on and they cant get them off themselves until they are much, much older!) Later on - stacking cups - best toy ever - v portable, can be used in bath, loved from 4 months (so funny to knock a tower over)& ages after, learn colours, numbers etc etc. Also stokke tripp trapp high chair, looks great, tucks into dining table, still very much in use with 2.6 yr old (without restraining bar), no end in sight yet.

Worst:mini wardrobe for nursery - drawers are what you really need, what is the point in hanging up such tiny clothes, esp when there are so many of them? I still dont bother hanging anything except coats. Changing table - never used it, always used a changing mat on floor (my back was/is ok tho).

Louandben · 20/02/2008 16:56

oh - Bumbo - what a waste of money, my DS HATED being stuck in one spot, even before he could crawl!

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2008 17:05

best - muslin squares, M&S feeding bras (4 on constant cycle for last 10 months)
worst - top n tail boowl, bumbo (legs too skinny, then he could get out when they filled it), agree with any sippy cup other than open ones or basic tommee tippee for 98p!, bath sponge with baby shape cut out - water goes cold almost instantly

elkiedee · 20/02/2008 17:05

dp bought several of both the best and worst things

Best

We also got a Green Baby blanket and I ended up getting a second because we all liked the first one including the baby. Then one went in a burglary (!) so I replaced it.

A nursing cushion, wish I'd known of usefulness earlier

Worst

Microwave steam steriliser, we ended up using cold water system and a bottle warmer, waste of money. DS was back in hospital for 8 days and I stayed with him, and dp got these. I gave up bf long before I wanted to and wish I hadn't needed any of the bottle feeding equipment we got, but even so this is a waste of money.

Still, we didn't buy lots of things at the beginning, we had prams off Freecycle.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/02/2008 17:20

Best:

GAP socks, grobags, stacking cups, Tomy box of eggs toy, Bush Baby carrier, Next fleece sleepsuits, a beautiful blanket knitted by my bf's MIL, Baby Einstein DVD.

Worst:

Baby Gym, baby walker, cellular blanket, pampers nappies, bottle warmer.

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2008 19:19

ooh yes grobags and baby einstein!
