We would like to get DD a balance bike for her birthday and saw a great one today in the park. The dad told us that he researched it quite a lot before buying and chose this particular one which he bought from a 'trendy' bike shop near Euston (Titchfield Sq I think he mentioned??).

Would anyone know the shop he means please?

TIA

see, this is what I LOVE about mumsnet! Speed and efficiency. Thanks very much Foxinsocks. Now I just need to decide whether to spend £50 (Ebay equivalent) or £100 (one seen today and sold in Velorution).
Any fortune tellers on mumsnet today who can tell me how much my DD will ride this bike please? TIA

If it helps, we are just teaching DS to ride a bike by just taking the pedals off a normal bike. So he gets to do the balancing bit (which he has been enjoying), and when he has got the hang of it we put the pedals on and you have a bike as well.

I think the balance bike concept is a good one but I'm a bit about the idea of shelling out for something with a fairly limited shelf life.

That is what we did with DS Anchovy but he was that bit older. DD is just about to turn three. How old is your DS?

Ah, yes, I wondered if it was for a younger child - Ds is 6, so quite different.

I lurve cycling and the DCs have been in child seats and on a tag-along since they were small. Just entirely personally, I'm not sure that those "like-a-bike" things are more than a one-trick pony. We've used scooters for the balancing idea.

(Disclaimer - I have not successfully taight either child to actually properly ride a bike yet, but I think that lies more with the raw material than the methods used!)

DD hasn't got on very well with her scooter but she did better with her friends Mini micro lite so perhaps I shall buy one of those instead and take the pedals off her current bike (that she can't pedal very well by herself anyway)

Thanks Anchovy - you've just saved me some £££

I deffo think that is the right idea. My DCs (6 and 4) have had huge amounts of fun from their micro scooters.

Hell, I like, no love, buying overpriced pointless things for my DCs as much as the next person, but I've always thought those balance bikes were a bit of a wate of money!
