Swimming Floats

We've at last got into a bit of a routine of taking DS - 21mths- swimming on a Saturday morning - he's outgrowing the yellow chair float thing he had and he's ready for something that gets you in the water a bit more - whats the best kind of float(s) to get - armbands? a float suit?? - want something that will encourage him to develop his swimming skills while making him feel secure - any advice very welcome.

We used a float suit 9actually a jacket in our case), and it worked very well. It had 8 floats which you could remove when you wanted so they had fewer floats in for swimming lessons but when we took them for fun or on hols they could have more float back in.

If you are going for lessons at some point soon though I wuld check with the teacher as I know some teachers to be fairly particular about what they want.

We have float suit and armbands, DD very comfotable with this, keeps her head above water so she "swims" on her own, we have taken out a couple of he floats front and back to get her in a more swimming position.

Thanks LadyMuck - didn't realise the floats came out of the suits - that sounds like a good idea for when/if he devlops his skills - think we are a way off going to formal lessons yet - we're just trying to get into a routine of a Saturday ds/father bonding activity!!! (we've only managed twice in the last month because our hopeless City only has one public pool open on a Saturday and they keep closing it for special events - but thats another story!!!!!!)
