boring I know but do you hunt for Car Insurance deals?

and are they worth it?

we're with Direct Line and the renewal letter has come today - with a whopping quote.

just been online - gocompare.com and the cheapest one (company I've never heard of) was less than half the price of Direct Line. I've also looked at those who specialise in women drivers (Sheila's Wheels) and their quote isn't much more.

Surely this is worth doing - even their roadside recovery deal is much much cheaper.

any thoughts welcome as have to renew next month.

I usually start with moneysavingexpert.com and follow Martin's instructions from there. Certainly it seems to pay to shop around every couple of years. I've found that my first renewal with a company is reasonably cheap, but that after that it creaps up.

FWIW I rate esure very highly if you have the no-claims. Their customer service is very good.

timely question ! was going to post similar

just got my quote for renewal with admiral multi car, £899 for me and DH fully comp. gone down £100 from last year. but not a lot really. as we have not claimed.

don;t know where to begin really,

am not bothered about roadside recovery as with the RAC

just want a decent price!

PestoMonster · 16/02/2008 14:15

Try elephant.com

My friend recommended them to me and they were by far the lowest quote I managed to get.

Toothyboy · 16/02/2008 14:16

I change insurer virtually every year by using compare.com. Try taking your cheapest quote to your current insurer to see if they can match it, as they obviously would like to keep your business with them if possible.

sophiewd · 16/02/2008 14:19

Lulumama, I am shocked at that mine and DH's (2 different companies) combined are £600 and we haven't reached our 3 uyears no claims bonus yet

thanks everyone, good advice. I spose they just bank (literally..) on you being lazy.

Just tried AA too - theirs is £373 compared with £561 direct line. wonder if they do a deal if you get their breakdown cover..

I found that the 'women only' insurers were HUGELY expensive compared to the direct insurers such as Direct Line and Norwich Union. Diamond were ingly ££££

bundle · 16/02/2008 14:34

esure pretty competitive too - including green flag rescue stuff.

haven't tried diamond NdP but am VERY OLD so that might count!

(but TOO YOUNG for saga, thank god!)

AA good for rescue too - even the top of the range one is cheaper than what direct line was offering me. will ring them on monday..
