I used to have a very thick door curtain over mine, I bought a piece of fabric and made it into a curtain (well, my gran did!)

a door curtain is a good idea to keep out the draughts

ChirpyGirl · 12/02/2008 18:43

Ours did open into the sitting room but the previosu owners built a porch that just fits round the door when open, so now we have a teeny porch and an inner door, and a really weird chunk out of the room.
Just curious but, how are you going to get in and out?!

fairydust · 12/02/2008 18:47

the house is a semi detached and it has it's only side access and a back set of doors as well

our door is in our living room, it doesn't get used much as the main access to the house is through the kitchen. We don't have a curtain over it as I am undecided as to whether it will look ok. We will probably have a porch built in 5-10 years time.

Bewilderbeast · 12/02/2008 18:51

oh and if you are sure that you never ever intend to use it as a door why not look at getting it bricked up

fairydust · 12/02/2008 18:56

we were lookin at puttin a venetian blind on wall so it covers the whole door what do you think ?????

sorry but I think that will look really daft!

ChirpyGirl · 12/02/2008 20:22

Ah, I see! I think a floor length curtain would be better than a venetian blind as you don't normally get blinds to the floor so it would look odd.
Bets of all would be a curtain that matches your walls. My PIL's have a curtain for their front door at night to stop draughts and as it is the same colour as the walls in the hall I used to have nightmares as a drunken teenager trying to get out at 2am to go home as I could never find the sodding thing!

fairydust · 13/02/2008 13:05

yeh we'll have to look for a curtain i think
the venetian blind we we're lookin at does come all the way to the floor and would cover the door comptly
