There is a double mountain buggy for sale on Ebay (\link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1261&item=4341635950&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW\here}) - just noticed it (I am not selling it). they have a very good reputation.

cant help you with buggies although i do know mothercare do a good cheap one, its not the comfiest. but i do know its hard to control a toddler when you have a sling on, esp on a busy road . have you thought about buggy boards? how good is toddler at walking? i have a buggy board although my toddler si older and i think its great

nailpolish · 07/12/2004 16:46

the buggy board i have is also a wee seat so she can sit as well as stand

I recon you'll need a double buggy. If your ds will be 18 months when new babe arrives he'll still use a pushchair for a good 6 months (my ds is 2.5 and I still use a buggy) so carrying a 6 month old in a sling would be hard work.

I'd invest in a double stroller, like a maclaren.

Congrats on pregnancy btw Grin

i had an 18 and a half month age gap. found my mothercare urban detour to be absolutely essential. very very easy to push around off road, and in nice shopping centres. people called it my aeroplane, but i thought it fantastic. fitted in everywhere that a wheel chair would, including the new buses.
heavy to get in and out of the car, but not impossible.#
mothercare sells them for about 230. i sold on ebay for 137.
i wouldnt recommend the buggy board till about two and a half. ish.
good luck, and congratulations!

I have a Mothercare Urban Detour double buggy. The downside is that it is large when collapsed and difficult to get around shops with narrow aisles.
The upside is that its very roomy. Ds3 is now six(he is autistic and still needs a buggy)and ds4 is three and they both fit comfortably in it. It is very light to push, brilliant for walking on rough ground. The cosy toes and rainhood are included in the price so its not too expensive. I think I paid £199 for mine three years ago.

i mean the double urban detour!

Gobbledigoose · 07/12/2004 16:52

Ooh, congratulations!

I had a 19 month gap and although I intended to try and get away without a double buggy, I just couldn't and so bought one in the end. I used it loads and it was a lifesaver for the first 9 months at least!

Mine is fine for my purposes but I won't recommend it to you because it sounds like you need something that can cope with bumps etc. Sounds like a mountain type one will be best for you!

woodpops · 08/12/2004 09:34

Congratulations. I have a 16 month age gap and thought about trying without a double but like Gobbledigoose ended up buying one. I have a Maclaren twin and while it's quite bummpy on cobbles etc it fits through standard doorways, it's easy to fold with 1 hand while holding a crying newborn, it's not too heavy and doesn't fill the boot of the car.

I too had a 18 month age gap, I would think a double would be essential, especially if like me you have a large second baby, would have been murder to carry her in a sling for far. I have the E3, which is great as when dd1 no longer needs a buggy I can just unclip the additional seat and we have a normal buggy. Its no wider than a standard buggy and the extra seat does not hinder it at all so if dd1 decides to walk when we go out its not like I'm left pushing a huge double. We didt try a buggy board but it was a disaster.

I have 19 mth gap and would say that it was a good 6 mths before we could do the buggy board thing. I could only carry little babe in sling for the first month or so (too difficult to deal with squirmy 20 mth old with a baby on your chest!) so we had to get a buggy to deal with two. I would go for the E3, though that mountain buggy double on Ebay looks quite good. I think the mountain buggys are the best of the 3/4 wheelers.
