Do I need to replace 9yr old baby car seat? If yes, need puchchair help too then!

Was hoping to avoid it. What's the verdict? The baby seat will be 9 years old when I need it. Never been in accident or anything. Still looks great. But it is 9 years old. I've read should replace after 5 or 6 years. Is this really necessary. Asked in baby shop yeatserday. She said if 5 years old was Ok, I said it's more like 8 and she said then I should replace it.

Do I need to replace it?

If I do, the pain is, it was part of a travel system. I don't need a new pushchair as such, but I'd love to have a chassis to put car seat on if I'm popping into shops for a short while.

So if I need a new car seat, I'd need a new chassis. I see maxi cosi can fit on a Quinny Zap, tho I'm not keen on this. Is there a cheap, small compact chassis I could get?

{aside} sazm we have a Britax Evolva 123 Ultra which has a harness then a highback booster form 15/18kg, much taller than most Stage 1 seats.

ernest can you email bebeconfort and ask if any others are compatible, I don't think it is so long since they stopped making it (my neighbour had one about 3 years ago).

i know the maxi cosi thing you mean kinder, i remmber seeing in mothercare? havent seen it for a while tho.

can you attach a car seat onto the micra light pushchair now, it folds quite compactly, i am not sure if the seat reclines tho?

sazm · 10/02/2008 19:44

hi lizs thats the one i am swaying towards just now, is it easy to fit?

kindersurprise · 10/02/2008 19:44

Found it! God, I thought I was going mad.

Maxi Cosi Taxi

This is ebay.de (iirc, you are in Switzerland, Ernest?)

LIZS · 10/02/2008 19:45

is that the Maxitaxi ? ernest, did you know Roemer are Britax ?

LIZS · 10/02/2008 19:46

sazm , tbh first time it was a pita but you get used to it, it is very secure in the car and we haven't had to move it for a while

LIZS · 10/02/2008 19:55

ernest, you could join groups.yahoo.com/group/SwissSwapandShop/ and ask if anyone has a chassis to sell ?

ernest · 10/02/2008 20:02

yes, in ch, well remembered! Yes Lizs, I carefully translated Römer to Britax for sazm, All our car seats are römer, am very happy with them

Looked on my car seat and def no manufacture date (on the Bebe Confort) that's a bit dodgy, isn't it? I never knew about expiry date, and certainly not even thought about buying a brand new one, and it actually being already eg 6 months old. Just bought new (stage 2) one for ds3, wish I'd known that then. Wonder how old it actually is?

Like the look of the Britax Verve, similar to Zapp but reclines, and might be able to procure a Britax baby seat. MIL bought it for us to use on visits, it's only been used about 3 times ever, but no idea how old it is?

this new baby should in theory already have everything, but is rapidly looking more and more expensive.

TheBlonde · 10/02/2008 20:37

maclaren do a chassis thing but not sure if it's only available in the US

kindersurprise · 10/02/2008 20:46

Ernest
I hope I haven't given off stalkery-vibes, I just happened to remember you from a overseas thread. Or was it a bilingual one? Can't remember.

We have had the Britax seats too but recently changed to the Cybex ones as they are better for longer journeys.

ernest · 10/02/2008 21:14

lol ks, no. we've bumped into each other before.

I just looked at my Römer seat - also doesn't have date of manufacture. So should they or only in US or what?

theblonde. that's a good idea. I just googled car seat carrier to see if I found anything this side of the pond, and got this
