Calling all babywearers!! Another "help me choose a sling please" thread!!

I want to use a sling for ds2, mainly for being out and about e.g. 30 min walk to pick up ds1 from nursery, trips to the park etc.

I really need something that is not going to make my back and shoulders ache as I have a bit of a history of lower back pain.

From the research I have done, it would seem that the Hug-a-Bub is a good bet. I have a ring sling and am trying a brightspark sling but both are side slings so the weight is not evenly distributed.

Can anyone advise? TIA

How old is your ds?

I would recommend and ergo in the front carry position from 4 months, and from the back carry position from 6-7 months, depending on you and the baby.

I've been using the ergo on an almost daily basis for nearly two years, sometimes for long strches of time, and it is very comfortable.

The best thing to do is try and borrow a sling to see how comfortable it is.

Any stretchy wrap. They do say the stretchy ones are less good as baby gets heavier but I find them tons more comfortable and can carry my 20 month old fine

ds2 is 2 weeks old but nearly 11lb already and am planning to use the sling for a good while to come.

i bought a close sling. haven't got a baby yet but look at the reviews and other threads on this , it seems really good

wilkinet, kari me, or a mei tei sling sound good for you.
i haven't tried the ergo, but lots of people rate them. i used my kari-me for ages and then moved on to another wrap which i only stopped using recently cos she's just too heavy for me now at 18 months. but i would definatley recommend a wrap of some sort.
can post links to pages if you like.

The kari me looks good but so does the ergo. Would prefer to front carry than back carry though - can baby face out using an ergo? Or once they are a certain size, do they move around to the back?

'expert' babywearers tend to recommend not carrying the baby facing forwards with legs dangling down in any sling. to do the forward carries,
i think they would recommend that you should stick with your ring sling or pouch for front carries and cross the baby's legs in front so he is sitting up rather than dangling. (something about the spine is forced to be convex being dangled like that, not concave and rounded as when carried inwards facing you)

personally i think the kari me is more versatile as you can do so many different carries with it. but the ergo may be more convenient - not so much material to wrap around yourself.

stretchy wrap (hug a bub) untill 3/4 months - or a woven wrap - didymos or ellaroo, if you want to use untill toddler. A mei tai would be great from about 4 months.
