Want a dress for Christmas for my 7 year old. Where from?

Honestly, you think this would be a doddle but have looked in Adams, Laura Ashley, H & M and, er, some other places with no success. Just want a nice special day dress. Not a flouncy thin, cold party dress, just a nice warm dress that would look a bit special for Christmas day. The Boden ones look lovely but thought I'd see if there were any others around first.

Thanks

PS - If did resort to getting Boden one, what is there sizing like? Have tall a 7 year old (8 in April) girl. Would 7-8 be too small?

Have you tried monsoon?

TinselTamum · 05/12/2004 16:40

I've got exactly this problem Tinker but one year different (tall 6 year old, 7 in April). To answer the last bit I find that the Boden clothes fit the first year better than the second IYSWIM, so 7-8 would fit a 7 year old but be a bit small for an 8 year old.

I have tried Monsoon too, and they have a couple of lovely dresses but they are about £40 and I really balk at paying that, esp. as they'll be down to about £25 in a couple of weeks. Next have some lovely separates but not a nice dress in sight, just sleeveless flouncy ones. I'll be watching this thread with interest!

Dunnes have some lovely dresses. Got matching ones for my dds

Tinker · 05/12/2004 20:29

Not checked out Monsoon but, as I already think Boden is pricey at £26, think I'll be as similarly sick as tamum at Monsoon's prices. Have never heard of Dunnes, are they national?

blossomgoodwill · 05/12/2004 20:34

I also saw some lovely reasonably priced ones in Matalan.

Will check out M&S, thanks. Any other suggestions?

Next have some nice party dresses in, also Debenhams and (expensive but nice) Monsoon.

Momof2 · 06/12/2004 13:19

John Lewis have some nice ones, got ours from Adams and Next - but had to buy cardies to go with them as they are both strappy.

FimboCLAUS · 06/12/2004 13:21

BHS? - Haven't been there recently but they did have some nice ones last year and party shoes. I always think "school shoes" let down a nice dress!!

Try www.vertbaudet.co.uk - a French company with lots of choice in price and style (God, I sound like an advert!)and they delivery quickly too!

lisalisa · 06/12/2004 13:29

Try www.gymboree.com - their clothes are adorable and the dresses are really nice .

Re Boden I've just ordered the dresses you probably mean. They are lovely and cosy and striking althoguh dh did comment that he didn't think they were particularly smart looking so may not suit your purpose. My dd1 is just 8 and I ordered her age 9/10- she's not particualrly tall but very skinny. The 7/8 would've been much too small.

JuniperDropofbrandy · 06/12/2004 17:11

Have you tried Woolies?

JanH · 06/12/2004 17:16

Envy Haven't had a little girl to buy nice dresses for for years and years.

OTOH I am going to be a great-aunt next summer, maybe I'll get a great-niece to indulge myself with!

Thanks everyone. Nothing quite right on Next site nor Verbaudet. Will venture to M&S and JL today.
