What stocking fillers are you putting in the kids stockings?

Just want to pinch ideas really I have two boys aged 7 and 4 and usually give them a fair sized stocking but running out of ideas. I know they'd love it to be full of sweets but it's mad enough in our house Christmas morning without a sugar fix!

My ds s 4 and my dd is almost two. They are both getting crayons/ colouring pencils, a tub of playdough, handbells (from Habitat), chocolate money and a satsuma.

cupcakes · 03/12/2004 13:35

And probably some stickers too...

Bagpussinboots30 · 03/12/2004 13:38

Cupcakes, that sounds like a good idea, mine are about the same age as yours and usually I get a bit carried away with stocking fillers but this year I am trying to be good. All present ideas very welcome here - so far I have bought some chocolate santas in a net for each of them, so not doing very well!

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 03/12/2004 13:39

I have boys aged 8 and 7 and their stockings are miserably flat at the moment compared with dd's which is full to bursting. I always put in pens or pencils, pad of paper, some activity book, some useless wind-up toy, something that makes a noise (this year pop guns ) chocolate, etc. This year they have a sort of helicopter/plane thing to fly and I am thinking of swimming goggles, but other than that, I am stuck too. Anyone else got ideas?

JuniperDropofbrandy · 03/12/2004 13:40

thanks cupcakes. I'll put some crayons and little notebooks in too.

Definately the chocolate money and satsuma - huge tradition in our house. Plus whatever takes their attention so that mummy gets a few minutes longer in bed!!! Stickers(and a book to put them in sounds good and time-consuming)
Ds getting a plastic dragon in his, and some bob the builder figures - that's it!

JuniperDropofbrandy · 03/12/2004 13:43

found this

DS1 will love some of these. I quite fancy those googly glasses myself

Toys r us are good for this. Got spider which jumps when you squeeze the bulb, drink bottle for bike, "mobile phone" - that sort of stuff!

JuniperDropofbrandy · 03/12/2004 13:43

Yes the stickers are a good idea too.

I always put a good comic in with a free gift. One of those little flannels that spread out in water. A toothbrush with a character on it. some sort of fun soap - sainsbury's do a squidgy one. Some socks with a character on them.

blueteddy · 03/12/2004 13:47

So far my ds has got a pack of felt tips, a video, some wooden dominoes & a bag of chocolate money.
Ds2 (20mths) has not got anything 4 his yet!

cupcakes · 03/12/2004 13:49

I forgot - I've also bought them a small flannel mitt each. Tiger for ds and butterfly for dd. There's probably something else I've forgotton about which I'll find in March!

Finger puppets from ELC and nothing else at present...need a craft shop urgently

hana · 03/12/2004 14:01

always put a toothbrush and toothpaste for dd. She's not at the age yet when she'd give me a scornful look.....
what about magnets or magnifying glass or slimesoap or silly putty for the boys Juniper?

marialuisa · 03/12/2004 14:05

DD's stocking is pretty girly-girl really.

A couple of sticker/dot-to/dot type books
Bible story book from M&S
Microphone thing from ELC (as used by mad street entertainers)
A fan
A feather boa
little beads to make necklaces
Paint pens
Glitter glue
A bag of chocolate santas

I did dbro's stocking (he's 9)and it contains:
small torch
joke book
where's wally book
word search/crossword book
dinosaur stickers
socks
small box of lego
packet of colouring pens
hair gel
chocs

Chuffingoodtime · 03/12/2004 14:06

DD is 2.5 and she is getting

a "colouring book" that I've printed off the web, and a pencil case with "gwon-up" (ie, long) colouring pencils in it
a pot of bubbles
a pink-coloured lipsalve
toothbrush and toothpaste with crocodiles on it
an alice hair-band
chocolate buttons, tube of smarties
a pad of little post-it notes (this will be the favourite, loves making "lists" and peeling them off)
all the people and furniture for the dolls house she's getting later

And I think I'll wrap everything up so it takes her ages...

advocaatofthedevil · 03/12/2004 14:31

Muji have fab little cotton bags with a set of little spinning tops in, a "horse racing" game, noughts and crosses (wooden ducks), "London in a bag" and also Tokyo, Paris and a Village (wooden buildings) cute little packs of tiny pencils... loads of great stuff under £5 but nice. Not plastic tat. Also had steel magnetic games like chess, chess/draughts/backgammon/solitaire set and snakes and ladders.

Angeliz · 03/12/2004 14:33

I got 3 gorgeous little harmonicas from the Metro centre for my dd and 2 nephews. £4 pounds eacn, also little jacobs ladders and umping beans.

advocaatofthedevil · 03/12/2004 14:34

Muji also had colouring books and lovely little wooden puzzles.
