Zapps how are we rating them?

I've trawled through threads on the board, but most of them are old.
Just wondering how people feel about the Zapp now?
I'll be using it for my 17mth DS2 mainly with occasional use for my 3 yr old. I know not to hang shopping from the handles, so aware of that problem.
Anything else I need to know?

I couldn't get on with mine, found it tricky to unfold and unstable going down or up curbs, my eldest son tipped it right over trying to get it out of our front door! its also not great if your tall as the handles are quite low, the hood wasn't great either! however I am not the most technically minded person in the universe

burstingbug · 03/02/2008 11:12

how old was your son when he tipped it?

hes 10! so not little, it had my 2 yrold in it, and hes usually really careful, but my 2 yr old also reached right over the side and knocked himself over, that was on a level surface I did right to quinny to tell them about it, but received no reply!

Hmmm. I've not really thought about buying one before, but I've been offered one and I instantly fell in love with it.
There's so many mixed feelings about them from not wanting to being without one to chucking theirs in the sea

I find it tricky to fold and unfold plus there is no recline which I think every pushchair must have. On a plus its easy to push and lightweight and folds quite small so good for travel.

burstingbug · 03/02/2008 12:53

I'm not too worried about reclining as the one I have atm doesn't go back much anyway.
I'd be folding it to store when I'm home, and if there isn't a buggy space on the bus.

I have loved my zapp, but partly because I accepted it limitations before we bought it. It was fiddly to put up and take down to start with, but once you get used to it it's easy. My son has always been very comfortable in it even when he's fallen asleep. It has never tipped over and you can hang light bags on the handles, but obviously then it will tip unless you keep hold of it.

I found it is a dream to push particularly round shopping centres, but then the big downside of no shopping basket does become a pain. I am probably going to sell mine soon, because I find myself using it less and less mainly because when I use a buggy I'm going shopping and need a basket.

I think if you don't mind all it's faults (no recline, no basket and not being able to hand things on the handle). Then you will probably really like it as it is otherwise a fantstic buggy.

137wallis · 03/02/2008 13:21

its not great for the bus either imho, thats what I brought mine for, but although it folds small it is heavy to carry and is tricky to carry whilst holding onto children/shopping, nightmare if you've got both, i've reverted to my good old umbrella fold buggy for the bus!

burstingbug · 03/02/2008 13:27

I hope that I'm lucky enough to be able to get a buggy space on the bus, I only fold up if I really need to, buses where I am supposed to run every 7/8 mins so it's not too bad.

ours are the same, every 10min but you can garentee that when you really don't want to fold it you will have to and people round here are not good at helping!

pickie · 03/02/2008 13:44

We had one and really liked it when we used it with the maxi cosi and when DD was little.

Folding is time consuming and DS who was three at the time was simply to heavy (only 15kg) and big for it. We now use a Nipper, bigger but has shopping basket and eldest can sit on triangle on front

Zapp very good for town though!

burstingbug · 03/02/2008 17:58

Think I will go ahead and get it, if I don't get on with it, I can always sell it on

Mine has been fab, but is only used occasionally. Fits in a tiny car boot, where no other pushchair would fit (also the footwell of other peoples' cars) and that was the only reason for getting it.

I have no problem folding and unfolding it (the key is to push against something like a car tyre), but dh can't do it at all and gets annoyed.

Not sure if a 3 year old would fit in it comfortably though.

burstingbug · 03/02/2008 20:13

3 yo would rarely be in it really.

i just got one for my dd who is 22m, and i love it,however if i was buying a new stroller i would get the petite star zia instead,as its basically a zapp without and of the faults,ie shopping basket/folds real easy/and reclines,
