Kura "reversible" bed from Ikea

My DS1 has requested for his 3rd birthday "a bed with my name on".

Since his room is quite small, I'd like a bed with "added value" eg. storage, play space underneath or some such.

So anyone got one of these?

Suitable for a 3 year old?

My ds went into a loft bed when he was 3y 9m and it made so much difference to the toy situation in his room!! I bought mine from Argos and it came with a bookcase/drawers/desk. His room was too small to be able to use the desk so I haven't built that yet (and he doesn't really need it yet!!) but it'll be useful one day!! Also, I chose this bed because it had deep steps on the ladder which I thought would be safer for him.

Yes dd's got the kura bed, it's great. There's not much height underneath it, but we have one of these underneath. It does inded save a lot of space (small room here too!)

As long as your DS is confident on the ladder then it should be fine.

I worry that he's going to fall out... how high is the edge of the actual bed bit?

(Obv. I know I can put it in the "down" position if he's not confident, but then that means there's no point in the loft arrangement!)

DS got one of those at his dad's house. I was a bit worried about the height considering DS moves a lot and... has sleep walked in the past. But he has been fine, he particularly loves the tent that you can put on top of it.

When his father and I separated, I started to feel a bit rejected by DS who didn't want to come to sleep to my house any longer, until one day when he came into his room and said "look, I like this room, but this bed is too low, if you bring my bed from Daddy's I will come to live with you forever!" That bed is my biggest rival in his affections.

Havings said that, exH has an inflatable mattress/sofa under it that allows him to seat and read with DS, but in terms of storage, well it would be good for a set of toy drawers but a bit difficult to access for other things like clothes, etc. The other downside, particularly if you use the tent, is that a small room will look far smaller than with a normal bed.

I don't think there's any risk of him falling out as the edge is quite high, especially if he lays down with his head towards the end where the ladder isn't, IYSWIM. Sorry I am not explaining very well!

I get you. And thank you all.

I have in the end plumped for a slightly different high bed. Hope he likes it!
