Hi I was wondering whether I could get some product advice?

I am looking to buy the ergo sling with newborn insert. I have heard that it's all singing and all dancing (and it does look good )
BUT is it any good? I know that there's lots of mummy's on here who use lots of products so was wondering whether you could shed some light?

Also have seen in cheaper on a website called FREE RANGE KIDS, has anyone used this website? If you have could I have some reviews please?

Thanks in advance

hi i have the ergo for childminding and it's great. only used it for a 1 yo though. used it until she was about 18 months when i found out i was pregnant.

am due to have my first baby in april though and am getting a ring sling for when they are tiny. not sure of the name of it though, my friend has bought it for me. was told by the lady in the shop where i bought it that you could buy the newborn insert but that she wouldn't recommend it for a newborn.

hth.

Free Range Kids are good, quick delivery & very helpful. Have you thought about using a ring sling or pouch type sling, lovely when they are v small, you can feed in them & they are easy to use & fold up small to carry about. I think ergos, mei tais etc are better once a baby has a bit of head control & for older babies, that`s just my opinion though, lots of mums do use them for newborns.

Thanks for the replies. Am still not sure as to what to do

It seems that I def need a sling of some sort as my 18mth old likes to walk now as much as poss. I think I need to find a shop that allows you the opportunity to 'try' them out?!

Does anyone know of a sling shop?

Where are you whitechocchip, there are several sling shops around but mostly big cities, I know of ones in Edinburgh and Durham and of course london would have some. YOu can hire one from various shops including Slingjax to try one out. Slingjax will also advise you on the best sling for you if you email them (as will plenty of other sling shops).
You could get an ordinary mei-tei (like a Kozy carrier) and carry a newborn in it without the (what seems to be quite faffy) newborn insert the ergo demands. Are you pg and want something to carry the baby in as well as your toddler or just the toddler?
I have an ergo btw, I just don't like it very much unlike everyone else on here (do a search in the products topic and you'll find loads of former threads). I don't think the straps are v.comfy and it seems total overkill for a newborn when a wrap or a pouch sling would be cosier. And not comfy without the newborn insert until at least 6 months (for the baby I mean

Hi I'm in Essex, but can travel into London.

This is all really new to me as I didnt bother with a sling last time as I had all time to spare for the baby, but this time round it's more about getting out and about with an 18mth old. Ideally I'd like the sling to last until the new baby is mobile but it would def be for the new baby.

It's just that I feel that I need my hands free for my little monkey but also want to keep my new baby close as my son benefited from that interaction.

I have tried looking at websites for slings but to be honest I get really confused with all the info and a friend had an ergo which she carried her newborn in and it looked like a good one?

hi i've just brought an ergo, and i'm not finding it as easy to use as I thought it would be, and my baby doesn't look that comfy in it, but its great for my toddler although tricky to get on your back on your own imo. I love my moby wrap for little babies, can wear it all day and stay comfy, and feed ect whilst wearing it, I can still wear my 8mth old all day and not have a bad back!

Lmccrean · 01/02/2008 16:53

I have the classic ergo, from free range kids the company is a dream to deal with, and I loved the sling even though I had a bad back at the time I used it most.

Would think for a newborn the more tradional slings would be better. I didnt get the ergo til dd was 10 months-ish and happily climbed on my back (I sat on sofa, she climbed on)

I got my more tradional sling (mindee didnt like backpack style) from ebay. Think lady was called kidsrcheaperbythe_dozen, or something like that. Was called freedom sling anyway.

Slings are v.personal whitechochip and what suits your friend may not suit you - the ergo's quite pricey if it doesn't (tho they have good resale value). The insert thing on the ergo looks to me to be a pita (I've seen the video for it) and not sure how secure the baby would be as you'd need to be bending over a lot with 18mo etc (which is why wraps are popular for newborns, I think though I don't own one).
SaSa slings are in Essex and they hire and do consultations. I think it's really hard to figure it out just looking online. They don't do the ergo, but the patapum is v.similar to it. Why don't you try your friend's ergo for a start, see how it feels?
