exp wants to get these for dd for christmas and is asking if thats alright. Just wanted to ask for your opinion, as dd likes colouring in books so the chalk board may be a good idea, not sure about the white board though as you'll have to use pens wont you? Not a good idea with a 2 year old, or at least my one anyway! And Im getting dd a doll's buggy for Christmas so would the trolley still be a good idea? she does like to push things around although there isnt usually much room for her to do it

We got a chalk board/easel thinh when dd was 2. It was a fantastic gift andnow at almost 8 she still uses it. It has been one of the most sucessful toys in our house

ChristmasStockingpuss30 · 01/12/2004 16:28

I would think that's fine. DS had an easel with a white and chalk board on either side and we bought magnetic letters and numbers to go on it so that he could still play with it without the use of paints IYSWIM. DD now uses it (she's 2) and has a great time. I hope your dd enjoys it

thanks, wasnt 100% sure what it was, so will take your word for it

We used the white board to stick big bits paper on for painting.

Sounds like the white/board/chalk board will be on opposite sides of an easel. Something like this DS has this and I've never used the white board bit. But it has clips on which I stick white paper off a big roll from Ikea on for painting. Pretty good present for a 2yo IMO.

What sort of a trolley is he wanting to get. A supermarket type one? Or a blocks one?

noangel · 01/12/2004 16:36

If you mean a supermarket trolley with play shopping - ds loves his (3yrs). I think she would love it with the doll's buggy. She could play going shopping.

tammyBEARinggifts · 01/12/2004 16:42

yeah its a shopping trolley, doesnt come with anything so would it be an idea to buy something like shopping toys to go with it? he said its from elc so it may be that one bozza

We have the elc coloured easel with magnetic white board one side (we use letters/numbers and has clips to hold paper for painting, it isn't a wipe-clean surface though) and blackboard the other. Doesn't get used much tbh and takes up a fair bit of room.

Ours play shopping games but only have a basket - if you have a stack of play food and a till I'm sure it woudl get played with.

I'd say both were fine for her age.

noangel · 01/12/2004 16:49

Elc do good play shopping. She'd definitely need some. Although, having said that, she'd probably be just as happy with a few tins and packets from your cupboard!

Bozza · 01/12/2004 16:54

You could wash out a few old margerine tubs, yoghurt pots etc if you weren't thinking of buying play food.

tammyBEARinggifts · 01/12/2004 16:58

i did say to him that if one of his family members are stuck for something to buy her then they could buy her some shopping to go in the trolley

this is going to sound really stupid but i just realised from this thread that the white board can be used as a magnetic board - and there i was looking round for a big enough magnetic board when we have the ELC one (as described by Lizs) sitting in our living room! oops!!!!

tammyBEARinggifts · 01/12/2004 17:36

We also have the ELC board. I also had no idea it was magnetic (another )

csa · 02/12/2004 10:07

hi all, checked it out last night and it is not magnetic!!!

LIZS · 02/12/2004 10:35

Ours is the purple and green predecessor to this one
