Ds (3) has asked for playmobil for Christmas. I'd have thought he'd be ok with it. Has anyone else let a 3 year old have playmobil???

yes mine have it at that age. if they are over the age of putting everything in their mouths (about 2) then it's fine. they love it.

Bagpuss30 · 29/11/2004 11:02

Yes, ds got the airplane last year aged 3.2 years and has been fine. dd will be getting a dolls house this year and she will be 2.5. Although I will remove anything small before giving it, she already plays with most of her brother's stuff anyway and never gives us cause for concern. They also have the advent calendar this year - Playmobil mad in this house .

nasa · 29/11/2004 11:04

bagpuss - where did you get the playmobile advent calender - I need one of those!

Bagpuss30 · 29/11/2004 11:08

John Lewis in Cheadle, Cheshire. There are about three different sorts - ours has a Christmas Carolling theme I think. Be aware, they take about 30 mins to put together though and you need somewhere to hang it. Daisy and Tom in Manchester also do them too I think. HTH.

Is the airoplane good bagpuss?? I'm dithering over the aeroplane or the police station and the police helicopter!¬!!!

They have them in an independent toy shop near me, in Sheffield, too. Try and look in similar types of places.

Bagpuss30 · 29/11/2004 11:22

Airplaine is fab but we had to get some extra figures to make up the passengers. We got a mixed bag of figures from their website and whilst there chanced across a bargain dolls house which was priced at £12.99 instead of £129.99 , hence dd's christmas prezzie this year.

Going back to the plane though, both my two love it and spend ages taking passengers on their hols, etc. We also have the baggage handler's truck and trailer for extra effect!

Another good one which is cheap is the fire truck, available at Argos. Has hoses and a water cannon. It was £25 I think.

Marina · 29/11/2004 11:24

Mine too. Ds has loved Playmobil since that age. Still a huge hit and now she has stopped mouthing everything dd (15 months) is also rolling up her sleeves and pitching in

woodpops · 29/11/2004 11:57

Bloody hell bagpuss, did you get the larges victorian dollshouse for £12.99??

woodpops, yes we did, but it was an error on the part of Playmobil's website. It took them three weeks to decide whether to ship it to us or not, but we got it in the end - we just have to put the damn thing together now! Another thing to be wary of is that most playmobil tends to take a while to put together. DS opened his plane last year to be confronted with a box of bits - dh was not impressed as he had to spend the next half an hour or so putting it together.

woodpops · 29/11/2004 13:36

Oh my God, how lucky were you?? Wish I'd have found that one. I'd have ordered 3 It's a great feeling when you pick up a bargain isn't it??

Bagpuss30 - thanks for the John Lewis location for the advent calendar!! I'll send dh tomorrow on his lunch break to see if they've any left! How much are they?

Bagpuss30 · 29/11/2004 13:46

Gobbledigook, they are £12.99 I think but ours was bought for us so not 100% on that one. They had lots left on Saturday when we went but they are not with the other Playmobil stuff, they are on a separate set of shelves nearer to the paydesk.

Where abouts are you then? we live near Macc .

Gobbledigook · 29/11/2004 13:47

Thanks Bagpuss - we are in Altrincham, ds works in Wilmslow.

Hope they've got some left!!

woodpops · 29/11/2004 13:57

Why don't you ring up Gobbledigook?? They'll always save one for you until tomorrow.

my 18mo-old plays with it and it's about his favourite toy. I should add i have a 5yo and 3yo so it's theirs really...and I do police him carefulyl with it (before anyoen tells me I'm a sloppy mum! - i am, but that's not why!!)

LIZS · 29/11/2004 16:44

dd ((3) has been playing happily with ds' for a good while now . However I'd say it depends what you are planning to buy him. Some of the accessories can be really fiddly (coins, cannon balls etc) and he may not quite have the dexterity to use them yet. You could simply build the model and use the figures for the time being though. dd really wants the new house but I still think she is a bit too little for it (that and the fact it costs equivalent of £75 plus room sets are £5 - 10 each). ds wants the new castle which is even more !

BadHair · 29/11/2004 17:48

Ds2 is 2 and plays with ds1's Playmobil regularly. We have to hide the fiddly little accessories though, and we glue the hats on too.

I've bought nearly 3 year old dd the Noah's Ark for Christmas.

My niece at around the same age spent an evening in casualty, because she stuck one of the little flowers from the Victorian dolls house up her nose. So watch out bagpuss, make sure that dd knows that flowers don't smaell of anything!

popsycal · 29/11/2004 20:10

OOOh Tissy - considering buying ds 2y 4m this....but maybe he is too young...
