mei tai verses patapum carrier

ok, I need advice here

I've been using a moby wrap and a coorie for ds who is now 1. He's not too long so is still quite comfortable being carried on my front in the moby.

However, I just can't get the hang of using the wrap for the back carry. It's fine if someone can help but for most of the time DH isn't around during the day to help.

We're going to Austria in summer so it would be great to be able to carry DS on my back. We do have a big framed back carrier that someone passed onto us when we had DD but I find it bulky and heavy and not massively comfy. And it seems like overkill if all we're doing is popping out for a wee while at home.

So I've been looking at a mei tai or the patapum carrier. How easy are they to use for the back carry if there's no-one to help? I've looked at the demonstrations but what is it like in practice?

DH might wear the patapum but wouldn't wear a mei tai. How comfy is the patapum? I had a baby bjorn type thing for DD and found it really uncomfy but have loved using the wrap with DS so I'm swaying towards a mei tai but think the patapum may be easier to use

I could hire them to try but would appreciate any advice from people who have actually used either of them

Would DH not wear a neutral, khaki or black mei tai. They are really comfortable to use, they also pack up small & light for traveling. Also any one can carry, as they adjust to any size. And yes, after a bit of practice a back carry is easy to do on your own. Cant help with the patapum as I havnt tried one, I think your body shape height etc has a lot to do, with whether you will find one comfortable to use or not, although DH may prefer as they look a bit more mainstream.
