bikes/trikes. how annoting must that be for kids, either that or theparents put them together the night b4 and try and hide them.

Roisin · 28/11/2004 14:43

Guess Who? game - takes for ever to sort out all the little bits!

Table Football

Any ELC or similar little trains, cars etc. in boxes, with those annoying little wires, which are a hazard for tots amidst all the Christmas wrapping. And take AGES to unfasten.

Duplo/lego......ds got some when the baby was born and it must have taken us 25 mins to undo those dratted wiry things! He was getting very frustrated!

Hulababy · 28/11/2004 15:21

Before wrapping presents up for Dd this year I have taken them out of the boxes and removed things like those annoying twisted bits of wire, and all the sallotape, etc. So that things come straight out of the box, ready to play with. Before DD's birthday we assembled her kitchen the night before too, and just through a big sheet over the top of it.

Oh, and I will have a pair of scissors and a bin handy for the pressies from everyone else, and a little screwdriver and a selection of batteries by my side too.

Gingerbear · 28/11/2004 16:21

Oh, top tip YG, DD is having a pram and Annabell this year, so looks like we will be busy Xmas Eve.
last year she had a trike, and it took DH about an hour to assemble it. She got bored and couldn't be bothered with it then!

Hulababy · 28/11/2004 16:24

Gingerbear - we also had Baby Annabel ready and working last Christmas. Sat her in a baby car seat and just covered her over with that in middle of room.

Gobbledigook · 28/11/2004 16:27

The Black and Decker tool bench I've bought for the ds's - there's a job for Xmas eve!

BTW Coddy - someone wants to know your thoughts on the Jamie Bulger thread - or are you purposely avoiding it? I've just got drawn in but I'm staying away now.

ds's have got that dinosaur car racing track thing 9hot wheels??) of an aunt. I get the feeling I'm going to be doing some serious construction in the next few weeks. Seriously tempted to glue it all together permanently as my little so and so's have a wonderful habit of taking stuff all apart then it takes bloody forever to reconstruct next time they want it

do you always try & stuff the stuff back into boxes & then wrap up?

spacemonkey · 29/11/2004 13:08

I still have nightmares about the playmobil pirate ship i bought ds 7 years ago

honeybunny · 29/11/2004 13:16

Ditto that Spacemonkey, but it was the playmobil castle for us last year. Took several hours after the children had gone to bed on XMAS night. At least they had plenty of other things to take their mind off the castle's state of collapse. Now they can make it themselves, thank god!

nasa · 29/11/2004 13:18

definitely playmobil stuff - took DP about 3 hours to do the airport

Blackduck · 29/11/2004 13:46

(4 mentions...) what IS it with those bl**dy bits of wire? Are they really necessary?

waffle · 29/11/2004 13:48

Barbies & the like need to be freed from their packets plus have the plastic taken out of hair. Do this & then put them back in wrapper.

dinosaur · 29/11/2004 13:50

Spent last Christmas Eve (after the DSs had gone to bed) trying to assemble DS2's Plan City toy garage - not easy!

Lonelymum · 29/11/2004 13:52

I remember buying ds1 a trike when he was 18 months old for Chritmas. We have lots of lovely photos of him helping his dad and grandad to put it together, but then he was always very keen to use a screwdriver. I don't see it has to be a problem.

Lonelymum · 29/11/2004 13:53

Agree about the plastic wires that hold Barbie together though. What a pain they are! And dd is not as patient as ds1!

Bagpuss30 · 29/11/2004 13:53

Don't talk to me about that bl**dy castle!! Ditto all Playmobil and ELC stuff and Baby Annabel. Also what about those blow up baby nests? 2 christmases ago dd got one and stupidly I thought I could blow it up myself. Half an hour later and red cheeked I send dh out to the garden shed for a foot pump which still took a further 20 minutes to inflate the damn thing.......

lol hausfrau. It took us about 25 mins to assemble each of ours on Sunday - and that was with the boxes already done from last year.
