Which washer/dryer? Bosch, or AEG?

I am stuck between these three!

Spec better on the AEG ( it's quieter, spin speed faster) but always thought that Bosch were the best and lowest to maintain.

Any experiences welcome but it's these two models I am looking at:

Bosch

AEG

Zanussi ones seem a lot cheaper- are they not as good/need more frequent repairs?

TIA

If you could possibly squeeze a separate dryer somewhere else (eg bedroom or garage) I'd do that instead

But aside from that I'd get Bosch, although AEG also do pretty well in reliability reports from Which I think.

Really?

Really not sure I'll have space for both appliances. Are the separate units much better than a combined machine then?

Thanks for the response btw

We have an AEG. It's OK although has a tendency towards being a bit smelly.

Agree with Wendy though re a separate dryer. I've had washer/dryers before and really don't rate the drying. They seem to take much longer than a standalone dryer and mean that your washer is otherwise engaged for a good period of time.

Well the AEG was a Best Buy in the last Which test, and that was at a price of £530, so at £480 it's a great deal!

The Bosch wasn't included in the test though so no help there.

And for washer-dryers AEG are most reliable, followed by Zanussi, and then Bosch. Hmm!

They say this about them though:

"Washer-dryers tackle two jobs in one appliance, but unfortunately for owners these multi-tasking machines have proven the least reliable home products in our survey; on average a quarter require repair in the first 6 years.

Still, if you can?t be without one there are two clear brand leaders in reliability terms scoring 4 percentage points higher than the next closest brand. There?s also quite a big difference between the best and the worst, with the least reliable brand scoring 16 percentage points less than the top performers.

Reasons for breakdowns
The top reasons why washer-dryers break down are: Programme failure - 16% of breakdowns, Drain pump/hose - 12%, Door - 11%, Drum does not rotate - 11%"

HTH

My dryer is the garage.

The dryer element in my previous machine (Hoover IIRC) failed 3 times in as many years and it wasn't heavily used as I've always had a separate dryer too. I gave up on having it repaired in the end and just washed.

Oh blimey so I got my thinking completely wrong then!

So AEG are best, followed by Zanussi ( which are very cheap at the moment) and then Bosch?

I am moving to a lovely - but small- basement flat next month and will be there at least 6 months; really can't see me having space for 2 machines but I will have to have another think.

Keep those posts coming though- all very helpful

I have become a washing machine bore recently.
I have just ordered a Miele one after extensive research (well the mumsnet archives and Which) -Miele seems to come out tops.

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 23/01/2008 13:20

Just found This which seems a bit of a bargain....

The Miele ones are so expensive- would buy one if I could afford it though

Which one have you ordered

Prestige Plus-£549 from John Lewis(plus five year free waranty).
Like you I want a quiet machine and this scored highly on that in Which review.

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 23/01/2008 13:39

Oh I could afford that the other models I looked at were £800 upwards!

5 year warranty is excellent- thanks so much!

Miele according to the washing machine person who came to fix my 2 year old Bosch

handlemecarefully · 23/01/2008 13:41

And he should know his onions (or his washing machines)

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 23/01/2008 13:42

Ahhh didn't realise that was just a washing machine- as in not washer/dryer......

Oops sorry for not reading your op more thoroughly !

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 23/01/2008 13:51
