Baby chairs/High chairs

As my 12wk old GS does not have a baby rocker chair I am looking at products to buy for him. I'm wondering if it might be more sensible to go for a high chair with adjustable positions? He is a big baby, now 15lbs, and I don't think a baby chair would last for long.
Any ideas?

He shouldn't need a high chair until he can sit.

IMO the ones that recline are a PITA to clean. The Ikea Antilop for £15 is fab, very basic, but very fab, cleanable, hoseable, showerable, put in the bootable....

1000x better value for money than a £100 job from mothercare that you get frustrated with the food crushed into teh seams after 2m.

Oh thanks for such a quick reply!
I love IKEA, so that may be the answer. So would you suggest just waiting until he can sit or getting an interim baby chair?

We have a rocker baby chair thing. I still find it really useful, DS is 8 months. He sleeps in it in the day and we used it for beginning of weaning as he couldn't sit up yet.

clouded · 22/01/2008 23:28

Thanks platesmasher. It's just that he is quite a big baby for his age and the rocker type chairs seem to only take up to 20lbs. Unless you know a brand that can bear huge babas ....she asks hopefully??

We didn't have rockers for DTDs, but we used their car seats as chairs for a few things, but only after they were about 4m when the cot death risks associated with being in a chair were reduced (they were prem so more prone to the risks).

platesmasher · 22/01/2008 23:37

Not sure. Ours is a chicco thing but I don't know if you can get the same one anymore as it's about 4 years old. They all seem to have a lot of crap attached to them now, toys and stuff.
What do you use at the moment?
BTW DS is 15lbs and it takes his weight but i'm not sure if I could predict how long you would get use out of it if baby growing fast.

the babybjorn baby chair turns into a toddler chair so def will accommodate your GS for a long time, pricey though! I second the antilop highchair.

platesmasher · 22/01/2008 23:46

Just found a link for that. Looks really good.

We had one like this. It was great.

DS lay reclined in it from about 4mths. He could see what was going on and was always quite happy. He sometimes even fell asleep in it.

He used it until he was about 2yo, then we bought a Triptrap.

platesmasher · 22/01/2008 23:56

the babybjorn looks great and it's nice for little one's to have somewhere to sit in the living room or it's portable so you can take it to the bathroom while you shower.
We've also got the stokke triptrap chair and it's great. From about 6 months til they leave home and take it with them. Again pricey.

babyjjbaby · 23/01/2008 00:01

i would recomend the chicco polly highchair they are fab and recline alot so from about 3mths really padded to and u can pullit right up to the table bid tray adjustable leg rest so they are comfy they are great

I'm overwhelmed...thanks all for help and advice. How brilliant MN is!
Plate and cargirl, yes, I like the look of the babybjorn and it seems as if it will last a while. Pricey, but I'm a doting gran...lucky boy.
He doesn't have anything at the moment in the chair line except maybe uses car seat like SMS's dtds.
babyjjbaby and kinder thanks for the chicco tips.
I think I'm going to leave the decision to his dps. I think mine just had basic wooden high chair..but so long ago I can hardly remember!

Oh, clouded, I did not realise that you are the Granny.

Have you seen the Gransnet topic? My mum posts there sometimes, and is a bit disappointed that it is quite quiet.

clouded · 23/01/2008 12:53

kinder I have seen gransnet and it is very quiet. Hmmm puzzling....
We grannys may be important but peripheral. It seems to me that the real juicyness of this site is between you mums and of course between you all and your dcs.
Wish it had been around when I was a young mum. What a difference it would've made. Hey ho.

Had a lovely wooden chair/desk/highchair one & the ikea one. Ikea one gets used all the time, its great strong, easy to use & clean, wood one is nice but think it will be used more as chair & table.
