hi

i was wondering if anyone knew any spanish or european websites that i may be able to buy a jane pram and if it is any cheaper? think we have finally decided on a slalom but they are really expensive especially with the accessories.

any other comments good or bad about the pram would be appreciated.

Jane pram is soooooo bulky and fiddly
I'm expecting DC2 and really whish I'd gone for something lighter.
The quinny is amazingly light and easy folds at the blink of an eye!

Don't buy Jane, overpriced, over-rated, flawed design (ask anyone who had a powertrack with juddery front wheel), rubbish build quality. I don't sell them anymore but when I did we used to see about 3 out of every 5 we sold come back with faults. Who needs that kind of hastle? It should be reliable for the price.

Poor customer service from Johnston Prams (UK importer). If you do go for Jane buy it from a UK retailer. If you have any problems with it you need to be able to take it to the shop so they can send it back to be fixed (which won't be quick as Johnston Prams really drag their heels over within warranty repairs). If you buy from Europe it will cost more in postage for repairs than a new buggy.

I also recommend that you DON'T buy a Matrix car seat. The fit in any car I have tried it in is truly appalling.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, this is just my experience of Jane. Somebody will be along to contradict me.

Look at Bugaboo (I know, expensive) they have a 2 year warranty and rarely have problems. Mountain Buggy - completely bomb proof, they never go wrong. Emmaljunga - quite traditional but beautifully built. Stokke Xplory (not everyone's cup of tea) but very clever, well built and easy to push (also has a 2 year waranty).

hi teaandcake and slim22,

thanks for the advice.

teaandcake, sorry to torture you but went out today to look at the prams. the stokke wouldn't work where we live, don't like the bugaboo as have had it before for childminding and was glad i could hand it back.

liked the emmaljunga and the mountain buggy but they didn't have either of the models i wanted. the only stockists of mountain buggy in the country and they only had the double and no carrycot and only order them for people to buy and the assistant said she hadn't even seen the carrycot to advise me what it was like. can they overnight sleep in it if we go away-didn't know! was it big and padded like the emmaljuga-didn't know! was it small or big and would it last to 6 months-again didn't know! told me that it would fit on the double model if i decided to buy it for going back to work but then i read online that this wasn't possible!!??

have you any experience of the mutsy urban rider.. have been told by everyone her that they can order them for me but that they are very heavy. but are they heavy to push or just to lift in and out of the car?

wondered if the emmaljunga was too big or would it be ok even when the baby got older!? i think i like either the edge duo combi or the cerox with a carrycot.

am still in two minds about the jane slalom with carrycot. the shop assisstant in one shop said it was their best seller but she worked for the uk importer so may be a bit biased, but the other shop said they sold them the most and never had problems. admitted there was problems with the 360 but they had been ironed out with this model. Confused

please help me as i'm even more confused now than i was. think i need to go to another country to find a stockist!!

Hi nicm, sorry been at work today and only just got the chance to look at MN!

OK, to be fair to Jane I have heard through the nursery industry grapevine that they have improved lately. I have just lost all faith in them with the problems I've had to deal with over the years. I certainly wouldn't spend my own money on one.

Emmaljungas are large, they have a very generous carrycot which is ventilated and therefore suitable for overnight sleeping. They come with a seat unit which is reversable on the chassis and lies completely flat for sleeping when out and about. Also very roomy and comfortable. This is definately a walking pram, the whole thing is fairly heavy to lift in and out of cars but gorgeous to look at and push. Lovely suspension.

The Mountain Buggy carrycot is not as generous as the Emmaljunga one but I used mine for a full six months for my average sized DS with no problems at all. Its such a shame you can't see one locally in the flesh. They are the simplest carrycot to fit to a chassis that I have ever seen - four simple, chunky clamps which attach to the tubular chassis. Dead easy.
Its true that the carrycot for a single MB won't fit on a doulble MB chassis. The carrycots for the double are slightly narrower.
If its a 3 wheeler you need, this is definately the one. Excellent balance and weight distribtion making it easy to push off road and around the shops.

Mutsy Urban Rider: well they are certainly different to use with their articulated steering, this takes a little getting used to. They don't turn in a small space very easily. This may not seem like a problem when you first use it but it becomes very wearing after a while when it takes a three point turn just to get round one corner in a shop. Also very heavy to lift and I think quite heavy to push. The weight distribution with a child in is rubbish. There is too much weight over the front wheels therefore makes it really heavy to tip back to climb kerbs etc.

I hope your brain isn't too scrambled now! Any other questions?
T&C

thanks for the reply. may well be back with more qusestions after my next shopping trip!

is the mountain buggy carrycot suitable for occassional overnight sleeping?

could the emmaljunga be used for the odd shopping trip? i don't shop that much but would like the option of taking it with me as i hate to see babies in their car seats.

have also found the quinny freestyle 3xl and maxi cosi mura which both have reversible seat units which interest me, just for the idea of being able to have bub's facing me when they've out grown the carry cot - one of the reasons we like the mutsy and emmaljunga, but not sure how practical they are iykwim. have you any experience of these? what they're like to push, can i take them to the coffee shop once in a while?

at this rate we'll be using the ergo and have no pram.

thanks for all the advice, but sorry for so many questions.

xx

All I can say is DON'T DO IT!!!!!

Jane prams/buggies are heavy & incomprehensibly fiddly.

kitbit · 21/01/2008 10:21

agree with teaandcake - we have a Powertrack, bulky, heavy, brake is rubbish (you have to keep kicking it off otherwise it rubs as you walk along), juddery front wheel, bits kept breaking etc. However we have a Jane stroller that is superb and has lasted for over 2 years with no problems whatsoever, so it's not the brand just the model. We had the car seat that slotted on the frame, AAGH!!! Impossible to line up with the mountings, difficult to lift off especially with little one inside (had to jerk sharply upwards with one foot on the frame and hope you didn't fall over).

mustsleep · 21/01/2008 10:26

have you thought about a micralite toro?

quickdrawmcgraw · 21/01/2008 10:30

I know everyone's telling you not to buy one but am going to give you a web link just in case it's useful. It's for the forest which I have no experience of but I've used the site to buy a Micralite and they were quick to send with minimal delivery charges.

Teaandcake · 21/01/2008 13:11

MB carrycots are not ventilated the way Emmaljunga ones are so officially not suitable for regular overnight sleeping.
However, we used ours on a number of occaisions overnight when away from home and every day for daytime naps without incident. DS always v comfy.

Emmaljunga is fine for all uses you can take it anywhere. You may find though if you have to load it into the car regularly (ie daily) that it is heavy to lift. If it just has to go in the car now and again then it won't be such a problem. It does depend on your lifestyle.

I truthfully don't know much about the Maxi Cosi Mura. It is new and as yet untested. By that I mean untested by our customers, brand new products often come back with teething problems that the manufacturers havn't ironed out yet. For example the very first incarnations of the Phil & Teds, Quinny Buzz and Bebe Confort Loola were horrendous. Loads of problems which are now no longer an issue on these prams.

Apart from the reversible seat thing there is no advantage of the freestyle over the MB IMO.

FWIW the only products I would spend my own money on are Bugaboo, Stokke, Mountain Buggy (which I did ) Emmaljunga and Maclaren (for lightweight strollers).
It really does depend on your lifestyle and what you need from a buggy. These products are all very different from each other but are the best quality on the market.

thanks for all the advice teaandcake. sorry about not getting back sooner but have been really busy at work and am shattered in the evenings!

we've narrowed it down to either the jane with carrycot, the quinny speedi or the easywalker classic. have asked in loads of shops about the jane and have been told all good-and if any problems the co fixes them quickly. failing that if we do end up with one, the factory is about half an hour from where we live so dp can take it to be fixed!! with the baby hopefully won't need too and it was the powertrak and it's been fixed. still not 100% after what you've told me but am not sure of the looks of the quinny speedi. kind of going towards the easywalker-because it was so light and simple design.

went and looked at the emmaljunga which i loved but dp said too big for our house and his car!! and he didn't like the look of the mb but it was only a double we could look at without the carrycot.

this is turning out harder than buying a car- but it's my mums money and so i want to get the right one.

any views on the other 2 would be appreciated.

thanks

nicm
