So, if nearly everything in your house needed replacing, in what order would you replace it?

Married for 22 years, most of our stuff now approaching that age!!

Our 3 piece suite is really knackered (20+ yrs old so can't complain) but DS still "steps" onto it, cat sleeps on it, dog runs round it etc so we keep delaying.

Carpet was here when we moved in (8+ yrs) and well worn. I would like a wooden/laminate hall!

They are the main 2 things and when money allows, don't know which to aim for first....

and then there's a lot of other stuff

(funny how the TV & Hi-fi etc have been regularly updated by DH though )

What would you do first?

Everything in my house DOES need replacing!!

Currently we are repainting, then we've got a new living room carpet booked at the end of this month, and we are having blinds put up too.

Then we are moving onto the kitchen, where I need a new cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle....

I also need a new sofa, but I want really good leather ones again, so it's the town hall steps for me for a few months first ........

What I've found is that once you replace one thing, it makes everything else look really really awful, so you end up having to work your way through.

I would do the floor first as that should be cheaper.

Do the floors first it makes such a difference.

I would do the floors first too and maybe buy some nice cheapish throws for the sofa to make it look a bit different.

would do carpet first, but I HATE carpets so so much ;-) . Would always vote for wood, btw, we got our amazingly skanky floorboards stripped and insulated and finished in Ecos varnish and so forth for about £200 less than laminate...

I want aim for Wooden Hall but carpets in Lounge/bedrooms etc.

Then furniture.....

Maybe DD will have left home by then to save me doing her room

First of all I'd swap the manky Argos bookcases for good, solid wood ones. Books are such an important part of our lives that I really think they should be treated with a bit of respect.

Next I'd sort the window in our bedroom, which was poorly fitted by the previous occupants (or whoever they employed) and gets mouldy and damp around the frames.

Then I'd replace the laminate in the back room with a neutral, good quality carpet because I HATE laminate.

Finally (for now although I'll probably think of loads more later!) I'd have the garden done - neither of us are at all green fingered or knowledgeable and not really interested either - I'd have somebody come and clear it all back and then just put lovely tubs full of non-killable things all around on different levels, keeping the lawny bit in the middle for playing on.

How satisfying - I feel like I've been shopping!!!

Oh yes, i forgot windows! None of our upstairs is double gaszed, and only a bit of downstairs, and the wooden fgrames are terrible,

Carpet, suite, windows........
