has anyone found these useful for cooking rice for a baby? also is it safe to keep the rice warm when using one of these?

Alibo there was a thread recently about the dangers of reheating rice here

I use a rice cooker all the time, but tend to use up all the stuff cooked in one batch (I freeze some portions, but ensure it is red hot when reheating)

thanks gb, that was my thread!! there seems to be some disagreement on whether safe to freeze and reheat. thought maybe using something like a rice cooker, would be easy to cook rice and keep it warm till teatime?

it's certainly something that is used on a daily basis in the far east if that helps.

I buy Uncle Ben's microwave rice for DD or boil-in-the-bag. Heard something on R4 a while ago about rice being one of the foods most prone to causing food poisoning so must be careful with it.

how old is your baby alibo?
everyone in the far east uses a rice cooker at least twice a day, it's the best way to cook rice here in Malaysia, where I am!! not sure about keeping it warm til tea time tho..like gingerbear, we usually use up all the rice in one go. the rice would definitely NOT keep til the next day unless in a fridge, i reckon.
if u keep it refridgerated, it shud be ok for the next day, but must make sure u heat it til piping hot in the microwave or whatever.having said that, rice when kept in the fridge and reheated tends to go hard, and is not as soft and fluffy as the day before!

I am not sure what the reason is behind it but our rice cooker's instructions said that you should not reheat the rice and hat it needed to be used up in one go. Perhaps have a look at a site that makes them and ask them?

They are really great though, we use ours all the time.

thanks for tips, ds is nearly 10months. have just seen a tefal rice cooker on another thread about slow cookers; sounds like this one has a timer which would be great as then if you are out you can time the rice to just finish on your return ready to serve for tea.
