does anyone have one of these, I saw one while surfing and thought it seemed like a great idea for a present for dh.
But wondered what I should look for when looking for one, not having any idea about them really but think dh would love a toy like this.

Carameli...yes it is a great present for dh me thinks....my dh has been building them for 30 years and goes to the airfield on a summer's evening and gets lost in the quiet...he's actually sold a few on the net... yuo should ask him but I'll have a go at answering this..

If it's for a novice and they have little experiance in flying then I wouldn't spend more than £150 on one...it actually takes a lot of practise to fly as when they are going backwards the controls are in reverse..go to a local Hobby shop...Glen's models, Inwood models are names in our vicinity that maybe nationwide am not sure...they are usually hanging from the ceiling in the shop....btw has your dh ever done this before or done model boats and the like? just curious that's all.

hi lavender2, no he's never done anything like this. I just think it would be something he'd really enjoy and get him out and about a bit.
So he's a novice completely.

If hes a complete novice I would recommend against going out and buying a model aeroplane. V exspensive and very easy to reduce to matchwood. Boats are better, but they can and do sink, would say start with a R/C car. They usually survive even the worst crash.

Flying aeroplanes can be wonderful, and if you think thats what he wants go to your local flying club before anything else, they will talk you thro and probably be able to put you in contact with a trainer plane for sale, ie a slowish easy to fly one, I learnt on a mini super.

thanks Anteater, I will have a look into that. might be a good idea. think I need to look into this a bit more before I decide definitely to go with it.

hi carameli, i bought a remote controlled aircraft for dh earlier this year. he loved it but unfortunately, he hasn't been able to find an area which is open enough with stable wind to fly it. he crashed it the first time out (he has never flown one before) and had to climb trees, cross streams and battle with nettles to retrieve it! but i think he is still proud of the idea that he has one of this in the garage! boys with toys and all that i think i paid about £100 for it - if you have a local hobby store, they should be able to give you good advice. good luck!

thanks guys fro all the advice. I might go and have a look at those sites and also the one in M&S. At least if he completely crashes that its not the end of the world.
