i am thinking of buying one for my forthcoming skiing holiday, so that i can watch the dds while we are down in the hotel longe/ bar at night. we are all in one room, so once the dds are in bed, we'll be confined to the bathroom , if we dont sort something out!

we might not even use it, if the lounge / bar are far way from our room, but i'd like to get a monitor just in case it comes in handy.

so...what the picture quality like on yours, please? and what sort of distance/ range does it have. and...would you be able to set it up so that you could view 2 children in a bunk bed at the same time, dyou think?

btw, we are v vigilant parents and only ever use baby listening if we are v close by and have constant monitor reception.

Will you be conctantly looking at the screen? If not, I don't see that it iwll be any more secure than being in the room tbh.

constantly... will....

What I mean is, unless you constantly watch the screen you won't know if the children are okay. With a normal monitor you have the sound for if they are crying. I have MM in mind so are being very over cautious I know. It is sad but I am thinking more of if someone took them than if they were crying.

btw, we havent used baby listening at all for the last 18months, and are reevaluating how we used to do it, as our percetion of what is safe, has changed somewhat hence the video idea.

I know. Thas is how I feel. I am much more wary of letting the kids out of sight.

noonar · 13/01/2008 17:42

sorry nab, x post.

dont you get sound too, with video monitors?

I think so. I suppose what I am saying is I wouldn't use either monitor now as I wouldn't feel happy leaving the kids in the room on their own.

In 2002 we went to a wedding and I stayed in the room with DS1 while DH went to the evening do. It didn't cross our mind to leave him and I wouldn't do it now.

nab, when we have used baby listening in the past, it has been in hotels which are specially geared up for it.

i wouldnt use it now, tbh. but with the monitor i thought that if i could actually SEE the girls, i migh be ok with it...

Hi

Sorry, went to bath the kids.

You have to do what you feel happy with. I think we all feel a bit differently about things now and it is hard to know what to do for the best.

noonar · 13/01/2008 18:36

i agree, nab. but tbh, with regard to this particular holiday, i'm more concerned about security at the ski school and kids' club, than i am about the baby listening. at least the baby listening is more within my own control, iyswim.

but, the resort is high in the mountains, and is traffic free, so i'm hoping it wont be the first port of call for a would- be abductor. sorry. dont mean to sound flippant. am far from flippant about the whole thing. but if i think too much more about the dds' safety, i may end up cancelling the holiday.

we shouldnt let fear dictate our lives. but we do need to take care. its a difficult balance to achieve.

Hi, we used one of these at home when DS was little (PFB alert ). Pic quality was OK but range not brilliant and you'd get interference from microwaves, other wireless devices... sometimes next door's satellite TV would show on it!

It is not a secure wireless connection so anyone else with a monitor might get your signal, and you might get theirs.

TBH I'm not sure how well they would work in your situation, how old are your DCs? Don't spose they could either stay up late, or doze in a buggy (if younger) in the corner of the bar, instead?

noonar · 14/01/2008 14:33

thanks meg, they are 3.5 and 6 next month. up they only have 2 modes- in bed or very awake!

why might it not work? too many walls to go thru?
