Hoover advice for hairy dog household!

Our dog has very long hair, moults all year round and our hoover is rubbish - I have to get down on hands and knees and scrape the dog hairs up with his brush before vacuuming or we drown in great drifts of grey fluff. Another thread a while back had people slagging off their Dysons (to my great relief as we couldn't afford one)- anyone else out there got the same problem / a solution? I had heard that Miele have one called Cat & Dog - does it really work?

not sure Cha, but nice man in John Lewis did ask us specifically what we wanted our vacuum for - small flat, mix of wooden floors, rugs and couple carpets - and helped us choose our Miele (very pleased with it too). my plumber recently told me his Dyson is fabulous, said the muck it sucked up was incredible, just after his wife had supposedly hoovered.

We have a Dyson and it is fabulous although my husband still needs to show me how to use it - I have a healthy aversion to technology!

Anyone else out there got the same problem? Still unsure of what to buy.

Our Miele Cat and Dog is fantastic - although we don't have a dog, we have long-haired moulting mummy (i.e. me!) and it copes with that!

Great! I am a moulting mummy too. Where did you get it and how much does one cost? I don't think our local Currys (Brixton) has one.

We have a Sebo vacuum, about 7 years old, which was also recommended by the assistant at John Lewis. It's not the prettiest vacuum to look at, but it does a great job on the cat hairs (we have 3 cats). Or at least it would do, if either of us could be bothered to do any hoovering...

Know how you feel... I only ever do it if we have visitors or when the carpet looks like something out of a spagetti western, with great balls of grey fur rolling across the floor. My mum actually does it more than anybody else - she comes round and gets it straight out (must be trying to tell me something). It is her who is insisting that we get a better hoover.
