It needs to be cheap, (with cheap refills that don't expire) for occasional printing of letter etc. Can anyone recommend one please? Thank you.

DH has bought one today £25 from Argos. It is a Canon and has a little lcd screen. Prints lovely photos too. Not sure about refills but for £25 it is cheaper than one single refill for our old HP printer.

VanillaPumpkin · 12/01/2008 18:07

£25!! That sounds great. Do you have the number or a link please? Thanks. I have done no research of my own. Just come straight here for the wise MNers to do me a short list [lazy emoticon...]

Crikey that is great! It has a scanner and copier too. Bargain!

Two more questions please. Did it come with a cable to connect to the PC? Did it come with any ink cartridges?
I think this model is £80 on Amazon!! I have reserved one in store. It seems such a good price. So I have tomorrow to do further research. Any other recommendations anyone?
TIA

DH says no cable (but this is common these days) but it did come with ink cartridges. He is pleased with ours so far. He has re-printed most of the photos we have in frames in the living room as the quality is so much better than our old one.

VanillaPumpkin · 13/01/2008 12:12

Thank you. That is good news. Our old printer had stopped working but I plugged it in to our old laptop and it started again . We have a new second hand computer that the old cables won't work with though so we have to buy new cables anyway. So I think we should just get a new printer....I have to persuade DH though due to New Year budget constraints . Good feedback though thank you.

i am looking for one too. The cartridges are £14.99 on that one, is that a normallish sort of price then?

is it just black and colour inks, or the whole black, yellow, cyan magenta.
sorry havent owned a printer for yrs.

Yet have felt the need to getone for ages, as all my pics form the last two yrs are on digital.

r you going to get that ine in argos, I am thinking i might too.

pirategirl · 13/01/2008 16:50

also how much would a cable be then, i am v thick!

VanillaPumpkin · 13/01/2008 16:56

I think the cable for my old printer is £12-15. The one in Argos for that printer is £12.99 I think. I pay over £20 for my cartridges at the moment so I am OK with that price I think. I have reserved that printer at the mo so I cam collect it tomorrow if DH finally agrees. I think it is a better investment than a new cable for our old printer that keeps breaking down.

Bagpuss - Is it huge? It seems deeper than ours. Can the paper trays be pushed in or anything for storage etc? TIA

OP posts:
bagpuss · 14/01/2008 09:23

Hi, 'tis quite big yes, but fits where our old one went on our computer desk thingy. The bit with the buttons and lcd sticks out but the bit where the paper goes does fold up. HTH

VanillaPumpkin · 14/01/2008 13:00

Thank you. I got it this morning .
I read lots of positive reviews on line yesterday and, as I said earlier, Amazon are still selling it for £80 I think so it is a total bargain at £25. DH was worried about the size but didn't say no. It is still in the box as we have only just got back so I am hoping it will fit where I need it to go.

i have ordered one to pickup, means a 40 mile round trip as they have none for delivery.

Could you possibly measure it for me!!!?? I have limited space, so might not bother if too big.

thanks!!!

VanillaPumpkin · 14/01/2008 17:08

Yes of course. It is big. Give me a mo

OP posts:
VanillaPumpkin · 14/01/2008 17:20

Hmm, cannot find my tape measure but dimensions on website are Size (H)18.5, (W)44.3, (D)41.7cm. It is lighter than our old printer.
The other option which looks like a good deal is this. No screen so not quite as good spec but slightly smaller Size (H)18.1, (W)44.3, (D)38.1cm.
I went to Currys, PC World, Comet and Tesco and couldn't find anything comparable for the price, not even a Lexmark. HTH.

VanillaPumpkin · 14/01/2008 17:24

This is smaller?

I got one of the Canon printers from Argos the other week. It is a bargain and since then two people from work have bought one.

pirategirl · 14/01/2008 23:52

thanks for that, i think i will go and get one.!!

VanillaPumpkin · 15/01/2008 11:03

If nothing else I maintain it is a total bargain. It just fits on the shelf under our desk without bashing our legs...I have to pull it out to use it but I had to do that and plug the stupid cables in etc with the old one too. I printed a letter off yesterday and thought it was taking ages to do and was trying to work out what had gone on and it turned out it had actually been really quick. What I took to be the 'warm up' noises was the letter actually printing . I think you will be pleased with it. I said to DH it is less than we spend on the dd's shoes or a meal out and so think I have got away with it

pirategirl · 15/01/2008 13:59

hi, well i went into plymouth to collect it. I bought the cover for it offered, prob a bit stupid of me, as it only cover up to the price of the item, if they can't replace it with the same one. ( which of course they won't be able to as this must be the end of theline being so cheap!)

Anyway, of course now i see I havent got a cable.
bolleaux,

i live in a tiny town where the heck am I going to get one, and what do i buy. Does it have to be a cannon one.

oh btw, this printer looks brill!!!! I am very pleased.

VanillaPumpkin · 15/01/2008 16:07

Oh no! How annoying. Right I am very sure you will be able to get one on line delivered.
I bought this one so this is what you need to Google for. Grrr for you.

pirategirl · 15/01/2008 18:37

its all fine and dandy.

There's a guy who fixes pc's, who I have used a couple of times, altho he had always come and collected the hard drive.
I popped down to his workshop, and he had lots of accessories.

I bought one for £2.00 and he said there wasn't any need to get any of the others.

Wil be installing 2morro!!!

I also asked him to look out for any cheap/2ndhand pc's as mine is THE grandad of the pc world now.

Made by TINY, thats a joke !!! Its huge.

VanillaPumpkin · 16/01/2008 10:00

£2! Bargain. That is great.
