Maclaren Volo - Any good?
Juliehafrancis · 23/11/2004 13:33
Just wondered if anyone had, had any experience good or bad, with this particular stroller. What I really need is a r.lightweight pushchair that is easy to fold up for bus trips etc. Does it still fold up properly with the accessories i.e the seat pad etc?
Would be grateful for any advice.

I have one and love it. But I travel by car mostly. It doesn't fold up so well with the accessory cover. So, I don't think it would be great on the bus if you get cought in the rain. The one thing I don't like about it is that it doesn;t recline, and so DD doesn't really sleep in it if we are out for long.
If you are going to use this for trip out that last for many hours, I would get a pushchair that has a cover and reclines -- probably a couple teps up in the Maclaren line. I think there's one called triumph?
However, the volo is the lightest weight push chair around. So, if you know that it's going to be a sunny day and you don't need the little one to sleep in the pushchair, then it's great.

We have the Volo, but none of the Volo accessories - thought they were over priced TBH. Have a basic Mothercare rain cover which is fine and it folds (kind of) with that on, although the clip can be a pain to do up with it on.
We use this loads now. Got it first for going on holiday when DD was about 14 months, and it comes on holiday each time. It's also the pushchair we keep int he cars for whenever we are out. DD seems to sleep in it okay - although she doesn't really nap much nowadays.
We love it and would recommend it.

I was going to get a Volo then discovered that you need to buy accessories separately, so went for the Triumph instead which was cheaper and reclines and seems OK to me, though I do need to get used to the way it folds and the brake which you have to kick sideways. It does fold easily enough with raincover and seat, but you do need two hands, so not sure how easy it would be with getting onto bus. I live in London and most our buses have spaces for buggys, so not a problem for me.

I have this puschair, but none of the accessories apart from the raincover. I use it for short journeys and bus journeys and it is absolutely fine (in fact my dd seems to find it more comfortable than her M&P pliko one).

Love the Volo - it stays in the car boot as my "spare" lightweight pushchair for around town pushchair. Have a Techno XT for walks about from the house - it's still light weight (although obviously a bit bulkier & heavier) but also reclines.
Think they're both brilliant, except the Volo is the old-style one with the crummy brakes (they revamped the brakes recently) so tempted to replace it at some stage with another Volo, but only if dh doesn't notice

I hated my Volo.... underestimated the need for a reclining seat. My guy is not a napper but even if they just nap once in a while they look so uncomfortable with their heads wobbling around with nowhere to rest . I must have had an old one because the brakes never worked - just awful. I am still amazed by that - if you made a car with brakes that failed to work you'd be out of business but people talk about Maclarens terrible brakes as if it is some lovable idiosyncrasy. The lock for the front wheels did not work either. The wheels are made of hard plastic which can make for a really jarring experience to push and ride. The weight is great it is so light. I have bought a Jane Rocket and find it a good alternative it's light but reclines and you get a great rain cover with it.

I have the Quest and I love it. It reclines and as DS is only 8 months, the extendable seat is good. I don't like the 'chopped off' look of the Triumph. But I didn't want one as heavy as the Techno as I use mine on public transport a lot.
I got mine from kiddicare as at the time they were £35 less than in Mothercare!
