Anyone have a robot vacuum cleaner?

Costco are selling one for £164. Unfortunately I can't remember the make but I am sure someone will come along and remind me.

Does anyone have one? Are they any good? Any disadvantages? Does it work on carpet or hard floors?

I really, really want one but don't want to waste my money if it is useless. Grateful for opinions please.

is it an irobot roomba? if so check the model- new ones have just come out and lakeland have been flogging off some good ones for £99

Other than that they are fab- i have a few to keep my house under control!!

It's definitely not a Roomba. I think I would have remembered that name because it is the only one I have heard of before.

Why do you have a few? Do you need one for each room?

different floors!! unless its a roomba or a trilobite (which are about 1k!!!) i'd steer well and truely clear- i've tried a few and roombas are the only ones which actually work

So, are there different settings for hard floors and carpet, preggersagain? Can you use the same one? I have a mixture of floors.
Is it the roomba that Lakeland sell? There is nothing on their website, but there is a big lakeland nearby that I can get to.

no!!!!! i have three floors in my house and being the lazy cow that i am i can't be bothered to traipse the thing up and down the stairs! so we have one per floor which is scheduled and has a charging home base! result is- preggers has to do no vacuuming whatsoever- the preggers household cats get a daily workout chasing them and visitors stare in horror at the self-propelled dinner plates scooting around the hallways

roombas will do hard floors and carpets- and nothing else on the market comes close imo!!

I've got a Roomba. I bought it a couple of months ago and went for the (more expensive) version which was programmable to run at specific times of day. However, didn't take into account that I have an alarm at home and the vacuum suddenly moving around might set it off!

I put the Roomba away while the Christmas tree was here, and haven't got round to getting it out again.

They are good, but because they're small you have to empty them frequently. Works on all floors, but I use mine on carpet only.

preggersagain · 11/01/2008 12:26

foofi- it depends how dirty your floors are ours does a full run before it need emptying!

foofi · 11/01/2008 12:27

Another disadvantage is they are very slow (about 45 mins per room). I found I was still 'buzzing' round with the Dyson between Roomba cleans because I wanted to do quick 2 min cleanup before people arrived etc.

Pacific · 11/01/2008 12:28

Consensus is that it has to be a Roomba then.

What about Lakeland? Are the £99 ones Roomba? and do you know if are they still selling them?

Don't know if Lakeland sell them. Mine was about £250, got it online.

preggersagain · 11/01/2008 13:33

not sure it was the end of line clearance discovery blue ones.

Have to say with roombas you get what you pay for and the top end models are well worth it- we have upgraded all of ours to new generation 5 series'! or check out web- mower magic is a distributor.
